I managed the figurative, "shaving off," about three seconds for day-of-week calculations. A pleasant side-effect is performing %7 [sic] on practically every number I hear. It also helps with the issue of the hamster.

ADDITION:
Yet another benefit of practicing calendar calculation is that time seems to freeze and what is actually 11s can easily feel like 25s because of the increased frequency of those neurons.

My Scottish Fold is eating again :) She often has problems with hairballs in her stomach, and malt paste doesn't always help. Every now and then, she's off her game and refuses to eat anything other than grass for two or three days. I'm glad that she feels better now.
