I still have my little communist dress (lol -- it really wasn't about communism but I can't shake the association).

I had a few badges. I'll have to count them and see what ones they were. I remember having to earn one by telephone when I was in hospital with pneumonia. I couldn't attend the class due to illness so the leader quizzed me about the topic by telephone because there was a deadline for earning the badge. That's when I realised it was very silly and their priorities were wrong, and I quit.

My camp experience was related to this group.

No one in my community helps me except for doctors / professionals I pay. My nephew's friends pitch in a lot for "man work" but they're more like family than community members.

Did you take any "lessons" outside of school?
I took organ lessons 8) lol, as well as gymnastics, tap, ballet and swimming. I tried skating but quit and learned outside with my father.

I took violin in grade school from a nun who later left her order and became a lesbian. I also took swimming lessons. I took drum lessons briefly, but I was very bad at them since I couldn't keep a beat.

If you watch a comedy show, on TV for example, do you get most of the jokes but wonder if everyone in the audience genuinely thinks the jokes are really that funny or are just laughing artificially?

I don't usually get the jokes, but I assume everyone else does. Then I remind myself they have a laugh-prompter.

My nephew does stand-up comedy and I don't understand any of the pop culture references at all.

Did you ever go Christmas carolling outside?

Nope....didn't know that existed until I read about it in a book.

Did you ever go door-to-door to sing Christmas carols?

I went door-to-door with my communist club when I was about ten. I remember singing Good King Wenceslas. I was glad that we got to sing "real" carols instead of ditties like Jingle Bells which is actually an American Thanksgiving song. We also went singing at a seniors' retirement centre but I don't remember if we sang Christmas carols or something else. I was so afraid of the senior citizens that I couldn't sing. (I had a fear of 'old people').

I didn't know this existed until I got well into my adolescence.

Candles, or electric lights, on Christmas trees?

Electric lights, because they're safer. I am a traditionalist though. I love the idea of candles on a tree, or the idea that gifts are supposed to be "on the tree". That's what ornaments were, originally.

"I'll Be Home for Christmas" says "presents on the tree" which is correct. I hate when singers change it to "presents under the tree". That's incorrect and a two syllable word doesn't even fit.

I'm feeling a bit pedantic today, it seems

Aesthetically, in a certain mood, I like candles.

But practically (and aesthetically, too), I like electric lights on trees.

Would you like a natural Christmas tree, if you are able to keep the fallen pine needles at bay?

I erect a 7 foot natural tree every year. I will get that about 10 days before Christmas because I like to keep it as long as possible afterward. My father always had pines but lately I've given in to fir and spruce.

I also have a tall artificial tree, and a few smaller ones in different rooms.

Do you celebrate Hanukkah?

We never did celebrate Hanukkah----I knew about it as a kid, though.

Even in the Jewish religion, it's not considered an extremely "holy" time. It certainly doesn't have the status of Passover.

Do you believe Boxing Day is a significant holiday? In the United States, we don't even have it.

I acknowledge Boxing Day

Do you think that somehow mankind will eventually quit fighting with one another?[/b]

Yes, I love the tradition of Boxing Day as a day of charity.

Its association with sales and greed is ironic and bothersome to me.

Kaz: No, sadly I don't.

Do you celebrate Passover?

My mother and I celebrate it in a rather superficial fashion.

Do you believe January 6th is the last day of Christmas?
