There was such a funny Polish commercial of Aviomarin - the medicine against the car sickness - back in the 90's in here: it presented a scared and confused looking peacock  The rhyming caption said: on od pawia nas wybawia which means: it saves us from the peacock

Every Pole knows it :D

Speaking of Polish animals, I can tell you a few words about a horse too - https://medium.com/@urszula.lupinska/ho ... 56179c1ff7 It's also a well known Polish phrase - "a horse, as it is, everybody can see". :D

In Japanese the word baka (idiot) is written with the characters for horse (uma) and deer (shika).

Pickleball is an outdoor game that is like a cross between tennis and ping-pong. The balls make a loud, sharp popping sound when hit by the paddles, which has made many neighbors living close by stressed out about the noise, and it's led to plenty of drama.

There could be people with sensory issues or even PTSD being triggered by the noise. The players don't seem to care. Go figure.

When I was a kid, lawn darts might have been a lot more dangerous but at least it was less noisy. Unless someone got impaled by a dart, then there would be plenty of screaming. :skull:

I feel like people who move next to a pickleball court and complain about pickleball noises fall into the same category as people who move next to a race track and then complain about race track noises.

Tough s**t, that's part of why that house was cheaper than the home not next to something noisy. They enjoyed the discount but whine about why the discount existed once it becomes their problem. They should move to a more suitable home rather than trying to take away peoples fun, even if it means selling with a near-something-loud discount, just like they benefited from when they bought.

Less than zero sympathy for those sorts.

The Canadian pound was replaced by the Canadian dollar in 1858.
The Australian pound was replaced by the Australian dollar in 1966.
The New Zealand pound was replaced by the New Zealand dollar in 1967.

The existence of atoms and molecules was still somewhat controversial in the mid-19th century.

This was yesterday, but I found out they're building a Popeyes chicken restaurant in the city I live in.

I didn't even know Popeyes was a thing in Canada and that it was an exclusively Southern American restaurant. I wonder how well it will do considering the soured relationship we now have with the USA. Although we have other American fast food places like MacDonald's and Wendy's and KFC and BK and DQ, and most of them are all in the same area! And the people working there are going to likely not be from the USA.

I also learned today that Popeyes was named after a fictional detective from a movie who had the nickname Popeye, and not after the cartoon character, Popeye the Sailor.

Popeye the Sailor's character btw was based on some Polish American - Frank „Rocky” Fiegel's parents Bartłomiej Figiel and Anna Grott were Polish like me :)
