I think it's kind of weird to take decorations down when Christmas is just starting.
A lot of people seem to think it's over on the 26th, but it's only the beginning.
I know that's just me - but it's also English custom.

I keep mine up until Twelfth Night (5 January).
That's when I take the real tree down, but leave the fake ones up for a few months.
They're so pretty and they take weeks to decorate - why would I rip them down?
What's the rush?

I also keep the decorative XMas lights up around my house most of the year.
Sometime around Easter I switch them for lighter colours.
By August I make them orange and amber, for autumn.

i agree with the sentiment, i've never thought of leaving lights up that long but when i think about it, pretty lights are good all year round and should not be tied to this specifc holiday. i may take down the xmas specifc outdoor decorations but leave the lights up this year. thanks for the insight

It's different in AUS because it's summer, the nights are bright.
I grew up in the Northern hemisphere.
Christmas was the darkest time of year.
The lights were needed for warmth and comfort at night.

It's hard to get out of that mindset.
Coloured light is one of my main stims, so I'll never let it go.

I keep my tree up until that time too. I think I'll keep it up a little longer this year. I'll keep it up until Spring. I have a gingerbread heart. Maybe that's why I love Christmas so much.

i get it, you are very true. we don't get a lot of night time during this part of the year. decorative lights would be nice to see more of though, if nothing else to add some visibility to those that find themselves outside at late hours

I kept a seven foot fake tree up and decorated until May, a couple of years ago.
Why not?
Who sees it besides me?
It's not like I have tour groups of people parading through my house, thinking I'm weird.
My family and BF already knew I'd won the weird contest, long before that.

:)

I love Christmas lights.
They calm me.
They're more powerful to me than drugs.

At the age of 4, I danced in front of the tree singing O' Christmas Tree for hours. It's pretty hard to take down something that I love so much. At the age of 6, I called Volkswagen beetles Herbies. I've had a German mindset from a very young age. I remember my dad saying to my mum as I was drifting off into a nap in 2017, Shelby (that's my name) has always acted like a German.

I called them Herbies too.

I take my real tree down on 5 January because it's a fire hazard by then lol.
Fake trees and random strings of light can stay up as long as I want.

I used to pray to Santa Claus all year long, telling him he was a good person.
It wasn't about asking for gifts.
I felt sorry for him because most people only liked him in December.

I like that song. It has a cozy sound to it. I love Santa all year round.

Maybe it will perk things up to know which day we're on, and the traditional English customs associated with that day.

I know we aren't all English but this sounds like a good excuse to keep partying today -

Working backward here's Boxing Day (26th):

and Christmas Day (25th):

I thought some people might find this interesting.
I'll post a daily snippet about which day we're on.

If I was rich I'd have several undecorated trees up all year. Gotta have somewhere for the plushies to relax.

But yeah, I'd totally have a forest room.

My little boy kitten (the orange one) loves my fake tree so much I can't get him out of it!
It's like living in the rainforest.
He hides in the top like a snake lol.

He's totally mashed the branches and it looks like hell, but it's funny.
I might keep it up for him but I'm scrared he'll chew the fake green stuff.

I wish they sold sturdier trees for cats, with non-chewy yet real leaves.

They cost in the thousands to be hand made.

I like the one about St Steven and how he liked to help out the poor. He was such a Sweet Pea. I should see how I can get involved with Boxing Day charities next year.
