I got through it. I made some important phone calls and got Christmas stuff figured out.

uhm..willing to share how to fix broken windows...... :D

I spoke too soon - the workaround started giving strange results today. So I created another workaround, and then just as I was about to try it, the strange results stopped happening, and then the broken "Show windows side by side" feature in Windows 10 miraculously put itself right and rendered all my hard work unnecessary.

I can now do what I wanted to do without any workarounds, but I suppose it's good that I've got them in case the bug comes back again. Unfortunately I can't test the second workaround unless the bug does come back, and the details of exactly how to do all these things is rather complicated so I'll probably have to write out a load of notes so it'll make sense at some random point in the future when I've forgotten what I did and why.

Still, I suppose I've deepened my knowledge about how Windows 10 can do weird things. The original bug is a known problem for some people, otherwise I'd be wondering if I didn't dream the whole thing.

Added more to a new screenplay I've been working on for a while.

Title: "The Silent Guardians"

I'm only about half-done and it's not a superhero script.

I finally cleaned out the fridge. I've been putting that off for three months.

What finally motivated me to do it? The sight of all the old food piling up in there? The knowledge that I need to do it in the next few days before I go home for a month? The fact that I had plenty of time with nothing else to do?

No, it was that my rubiks cube needed to be oiled, and the tupperware container that was the right size for soaking it in the least possible amount of oil had half an old onion in it.

The "Show windows side by side" Win10 bug came back again, so I was able to test my workaround, and it works :-) Most people I know of who see this bug simply give up trying to fix it. It can't be fixed but it can be corrected in a fairly automatic way.

I'd tell them how to do it, but those websites don't accept comments unless I create an account, and that involves handing over personal details, which I don't want to do, so I'm afraid they've shot themselves in the foot. Anyway, the fix is so nerdy and specific to my own use that it probably wouldn't be much use to anybody but me. Everything I do seems to be like that. My solutions definitely make my life much easier, but they're of little value to normal people. I could save the world if only normal people were more like me.

Last night was a really rough night, but I’ve still been able to get some things accomplished today that I’ve been putting off - various phone calls and errands.

I got out of my hospital bed on my own, hobbled to a chair without falling, hobbled to raise the blind so I can see the street, then contrived to reach the whiteboard to write amusingly facetious comments.
Now I just want a nurse to have enough spare time to help me get rid of this damned itchy neckbeard . It's not even 7 am yet.
