It's grey and rainy here, just how I love it.

I very rarely have mango but I do prepare it for my nephew sometimes. It's definitely sticky but I've learned easy ways to cut it in little cubes. I haven't had it curried. I don't love curry because I prefer really spicy flavours. In my opinion, curry isn't spicy.

I stopped at the store on the way into work and organic mangoes were on sale so I got one. I'll probably have it today.

I agree on curry not being spicy enough generally. The only exception was years ago at a Sri Lankan "Curry House" that had many different kinds of curries on the menu. I ordered my disk moderately spicy and it was so unbelievably spicy I found it nearly inedible. It tasted good, but I could only take a bite or two at a time and then endure the pain (good pain) until it subsided enough to take a few more bites. It killed my stomach for about an hour afterward so I would say it bested me!

When was the last time you had a drink in a bar/pub?

At the most, I've had a sip of alcohol at a bar. It was definitely before the 1990s. Probably circa 1982.

I don't feel a moral compunction against drinking alcohol. I just don't care for it.

Same question.

I used to frequent bars when I was in my early to mid twenties to play pool mostly or see live bands. The last time I actually went to a bar to spend a little time and have a drink was probably 2001.

On Monday at my niece's wake.

Do you drink straight from the bottle/can or do you have to drink from a glass?

I used to drink beer from the bottle if it was served that way or from the mug if it was "on tap" or the glass if it was served in a pitcher and there was a number of us drinking beer that way.

Have you ever had the liqueur known as Chartreuse (Yellow or Green)?

I drank in pubs on my nephew's birthday last year, in Montreal and Ottawa when I saw Elton, and in Nashville in January, when I saw Garfunkel. I like to have a drink before seeing live music.

Mama, if it's non-alcoholic I don't mind from the bottle / can but alcohol needs a glass.
I like Guinness with the foamy head.

Do you like black licorice or anise flavored candies?

I do, in small amounts.

Do you remember learning to tie your shoes?
I learned by using two ribbons on my nightgown. I think I was about six.

I learned the “kid” way with rabbit’s ears when I was six.

It took me till age 10-11 to learn the “adult” way. It took assiduous application to instructing me by my father.

Same question.

I never learned the rabbit way. My dad was a "go big or go home" type of teacher.

Do you remember believing in the Easter Bunny?
I used to put out a large carrot for him on a foil pie-plate. He had his own water cup which was like a saucer.

I think I sort of believe in some sort of Easter Bunny---or something like Santa Claus for Easter----when I was 6, and I won a parakeet, whom I named "Oscar," in some sort of raffle at an Easter party.

Same question.

Yes, I remember believing in the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny would bring us Easter baskets. I don't recall when I stopped believing in the Easter bunny though.

I loathed the taste of black licorice as a kid. Black jelly beans...Yuck! But as an adult I've developed a taste for it but like you, Isabella, I don't have it that often. There is a type of licorice candy popular in Scandinavia that's a "salty licorice". I've tried it several times with different pieces having different degrees of salt. I don't care for that kind at all.

Did you have a favorite Sesame Street character?

My nephew believed in the Easter Bunny more than Santa. He never really believed in Santa or Father Christmas. He was scared of having a man come into his house!

In contrast, bunnies were cute and fun! My nephew used to draw maps of how he might 'catch' the bunny to see it, quite like the diagrams in Home Alone, or on Bugs Bunny / Roadrunner. He wanted to see the bunny so badly!

My budgie was named Oliver -- close to Oscar!

Sesame Street: I was obsessed with Grover and I planned my life around him. I went to Uni with the sole goal of getting a PhD to write with Jim Henson and Jon Stone at The Children's Television Workshop as Grover's scriptwriter. I wanted to live in NYC. It was all planned. I even talked to career counsellors. Jim Henson died the year I finished undergrad. I had a breakdown and it took me a year to recover / regroup my plans.

Did you believe pretty much everything you were told? I certainly did.

I sort of "take people at their word"---but I'll do research, too.

Same question.
