I LOVE a good doner or shish, covered in mayonnaise, along with some chips. Somehow, I still don't put on any weight :(

I prefer his plays. The extent of my acquaintance with his poetry is half a dozen sonnets or so.

Do you prefer sugar cubes or granulated sugar?

Granulated. The cubes never seem to dissolve enough -- yuck!
Overall I'm not a huge fan of white sugar or its products. Brown sugar is much nicer.

Which of your grandparents do you (did you) know the most?

I prefer granulated sugar in general, but cubes are indispensable when drinking tea from a pot to avoid having to take the entire box of sugar to the table in order to keep the sweetness at a constant level.

I knew and still know my paternal grandparents rather well. I'm probably marginally closer to my grandfather. My maternal grandmother is still alive, though I haven't spoken to her for two years or so. My maternal grandfather died in 2015.

I actually knew my paternal grandfather's parents - my great grandfather from that line died in 2006 and his wife in 2003 or so. He was born in the twenties and was onboard an allied (I think American) warship in the Mediterranean Sea when it was torpedoed by the Nazis.

What's your favourite type of nut?

:(

That's sad about your great grandfather.

I like many if not all kinds of nuts. If I had to choose I suppose I'd pick almonds, walnuts, peanuts, macadamia, Brazil nuts or pistachios. lol

Do you ever wake up and not want to get out of bed?

He lived a pretty good life, though he got lonely in the few years after his wife died, bless him. A wonderful, cheerful, good natured old man with an endearing and mischievous sense of humour.

I struggle immensely to get out of bed every morning. I've always admired early risers and the habit of early rising more than any other virtue, but getting up early is a kind of torture for me. I've been trying to get up, consistently, as early as 5AM for years, and maybe manage it once every few weeks. At the moment, I'm going to bed at 3AM most nights and staying in bed 'till midday.

What civilisation's mythology most interests you?

There have been great late-risers in history, of course - Samuel Johnson and Arthur Schopenhauer are the first to come to mind, but I've always thought the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Marcus Aurelius and Immanuel Kant (all early risers) to be more virtuous.

When I was working I rose at 4.30 AM, for many years. Now I don't get to bed before that. I prefer to sleep during daylight.

I feel badly for you if you have morning classes.

Is it morning you dislike, or just "getting out of bed", period?

PS. I've never really studied Mythology except for mandatory bits of Greek. I don't care for it at all.

I suppose getting out of bed in and of itself. I've never understood why it should be so difficult; I have almost perfect willpower on every other score - I can force myself, with no real difficulty, to study for nine or ten hours a day, I get a pretty good diet, despite my predilection for kebabs, I can switch on and off habits like smoking at will and often go on ten mile walks.

On the question of mythology, my issue is that, when I was around eighteen, I lost my faith - not just in God, but in all things supernatural. It came as a huge blow to me and was quite involuntary. Well, mythology enters into this for the reason that I always dreamt I might find some justification for the divinity of Christ by analysing the myths, chiefly Mesopotamian and Egyptian, which were the basis for his symbolism, or that failing at this, I might find evidence for SOMETHING supernatural around the time of the dawn of civilisation. Quite predictably, my studies only pushed my skepticism further.

A knowledge of Mesopotamian history and, therefore, its mythology, is still indispensable for understanding the origins of civilisation as we know it.

What's your favourite season?

Autumn, by miles. I have an aversion to daylight so I love that the days get progressively shorter. I like wearing layers of clothes but don't like wearing a coat. I like the colours, the cosy feeling and the knowledge that Christmas is coming. It's all good.

My next favourite is winter because I like storms and snow. I like staying inside and being reclusive. The only problem is that winter gets progressively brighter :(

I suppose summer would be my third favourite because I love thunderstorms and I do like the nice temperatures if it isn't too sunny. The days get progressively darker, which is nice. The main problem in summer is that there are too many people around (generally acting crazy), and it's noisy even at night. There are food smells everywhere, too.

My worst is spring because it gets brighter every day and there are lots of those scary creatures in the mud.
Phobia Alert. ^ It's depressing because I know it will be a long time until autumn.

Sorry for always giving long answers.

same q

I think you're the exact opposite of me in that regard - my favourite season is spring, for the opposite kinds of reasons.

I don't mind long, good quality answers, especially given that mine are also rather long.

Have you ever tried escargots?

I like Autumn and Winter because I like the ice, storms, and snow and all of the colours.

Summer and it's resultant temperature and environment seems to make for that nice feelings of things being overtly active, alive and productive.

Have you ever felt (ex. not to be vulgar but say after viewing something inappropriate like pornography) that bad things you experienced after indulging yourself are a form of 'cosmic punishment'?.

I've felt similar things before, but then I recall that such beliefs are suggestive of schizotypal personality disorder and snap out of it.

Are you familiar with Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade?
