When I was ten I was given my first "birthday money" by my American grandmother. I was obsessed with getting a Miss Piggy puppet and I gave my mother all of the money, so she could get it for me. I was ill and couldn't go to the shop to see it. My mother brought home the Miss Piggy puppet but I didn't like it, and I was ashamed of myself for wasting my money. I was too proud to say I hated my toy.

Now I'm very cautious about what I buy. I only buy things that I'm certain I'll never discard.

When my wife and I got into "Direct Buy."

We lost $1,500 in the venture.

It's a ripoff!

Same question.

No instances of serious misspending that jump out. It's just odd things like champagne, suits, expensive meals and first edition books.

What's your favourite type of pasta?

If I were Dostoevsky, my answer to the above question would be champagne, gypsy bands, gyspsy girls and the roulette wheel.

(What is Direct Buy?)

My favourite pasta is angel hair or penne.

My favourite pasta is fettacini (cant spell it) and I'm just about to cook up some.

Re purchases - I have done a few ... I have a stationary bike that clutters the bedroom and is virtually unused.

What is you favourite pasta sauce?

I'm not really keen on pasta.
If I had to choose I'd have fettuccini with a creamy avocado sauce, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

What's the most expensive gift you've received?

What is your most foolish purchase?

Oh, probably the drawing tablet I bought recently. I didn't realize it was for big computers only, not laptops, until after I bought it.

What is you favourite pasta sauce?

Just regular tomato with spices and herbs.

I make my own pasta sauce from fresh tomatoes. It's extremely spicy. I'm not huge on the cheese sauces because they are usually salty.

The most expensive gift I received was a University education from my grandmother's Will.

"Direct Buy" is sort of a Costco on steroids.

Supposedly, you can get items from them for much lower prices than "outside" the "Direct Buy" purview. A wide variety of items are supposedly included. Whole bedrooms, kitchens, etc. included.

Pomodoro. People used to call me "the pasta kid" at school because it's all I ever ate. I was also called "the violin kid" because I was often seen carrying one around. I was also called "the reader" for my love of books. In retrospect, they weren't very imaginative.

Do you enjoy cleaning your home?

lol, I don't know what Costco is, either.

I like cleaning my home with music playing. I've been doing some spring cleaning lately.

I suck at cleaning, for some reason.

I think Makro might be the closest "equivalent" to Costco in the UK (though you now have Costco, too).

You pay about a $50 "membership" fee per year to shop at Costco. Costco is where you can get things in bulk---that can last weeks or months, rather than days.

Same question.

I've heard of Costco. I just don't understand why people would pay membership fees to shop somewhere, or why you would have to be a 'member'. It sounds rather elitist for something so simple as bulk shopping. Plus, I have no need to buy in bulk. I need smaller portions if anything.

Do you still own any cassettes?

I've lived in the UK for twenty three years and am yet to have heard of "Makro". From what you describe, there is no equivalent to Costco in this country. There's a store called "Costcutter" which is ubiquitous - I don't know if there's any link there.

I used to love cleaning, but my OCD has since gone away and, if anything, my house can be a little bit of a mess.

I don't own any casettes, though, unlike another recent poster here in my age group, I own well over a hundred CDs.

I'm going to kill this discussion by asking if anybody has read Jorge Luis Borges - then I'm going to go to bed.

There could be an odd cassette at the bottom of a suitcase, but I don't intentionally own any. I always thought the sound quality was crap on cassette tapes.

I hate cleaning and or tidying. I have to have music playing in order to bear it....

Same q about cassettes
