I've seen many film adaptations---but I've never actually read the book.

Do you believe "Bleak House" has modernist elements? I found the beginning to be rather "stream of consciousness" for its time.

I was going to comment on Bleak House. It's perhaps the most modernist of his novels, and one of his best. Of course nothing quite rivals Great Expectations for me.

Do you like sitting in the front or back of movie cinemas?

Definitely the back. The front gives me a headache.

Have you seen these newfangled seats in cinemas where you can electronically control your seat?

I've been to the cinema once in the past year or more (It's a Wonderful Life), and I don't recall anything new-fangled.

Do you like melted cheese?

A few theatres in NYC have seats that you can adjust according to how you want to recline.

Yes, I like melted cheese.

Have you considered reading Herman Melville?

Not really, tbh. :P

Have you considered reading Go Set A Watchman? (The second publication by Harper Lee).

Yes!
(And sorry about the change, Isabella!)

Same question.

You know I was teasing you!

I read Watchman when it was published (2015?). I didn't love it but I won't give spoilers. You know she fought against it ever being published, so I felt guilty but couldn't help myself.

Do you read more than one book at a time?

I actually don't like to---but I've done it.

Do you believe Geoffrey Chaucer had good insights into "regular people?"

Certainly, especially in The Tales!

I liked The Wife of Bath, and do you remember I sent you The Pardoner's Tale?

Do you believe people are born inherently good?

I believe people are born both with altruism and a desire to be "better" than others.

Same question.

I believe the "Pardoner's Tale" dealt with papal indulgences. People can gain absolution merely by buying some part of Christ from the "pardoner." The Pardoner was a "snake oil salesman" of the times.

Yes re: Pardonder's Tale. I revised it to describe modern-day zealots.

I believe people are born inherently good, but then I believe in the theories of JS Mill or John Rawls regarding social and political interaction.

Do you sleep late on weekends?

I don't.

Yes. I do remember when you did your modern-day revision of the "Pardoner's Tale." It was excellent!

Are you going to see the new Elton John "musical"?

If Elton isn't in it, then nope.

Are you?

It got fairly good reviews...but I like more realism than musical elements.

Would you see “Bat Out Of Hell” if it comes to wherever you live?

Again, no. If it isn't the real performer in shows about musicians, I'm not interested.
I didn't even see the Freddy Mercury movie. I don't even watch films based on Brontë novels! 8O

Do you own any velcro shoes?
