I feel awkward by myself in public whether I have a phone or not, but texting or writing doesn't make it worse.

same question

I visited my maternal grandmother's house today for the first time in well over a decade. Her - somewhat vintage - wallpaper evoked a great deal of nostalgia for me.

Like warm, still rain in spring and summer.

I think it's rude and common to use mobile phones in public and almost never do.

What's your favourite reptile?

Tortoises. We had one when I was a child. He escaped from my parents' home a few years ago and was killed by a fox. :(

Favourite bird the osprey.

That must be in Australia somewhere.

I would say the Thames.

Do you often find shyness an endearing/attractive quality?

Yes. Very much so. I can relate to shyness.

Do you know where mainland Britains only turlough is?

I'll defer to Prometheus. I don't know what a turlough is.

Yes, especially in the fair sex. I was speaking to a Christian woman yesterday (in her sixties) and was struck by how endearingly meek she was, rather like a female Prince Myshkin. I resolved to work on cultivating meekness of my own, having always thought it a central Christian virtue and one almost entirely neglected in an age of emotional incontinence and worship of extroversion. I also couldn't help inwardly regretting the fact that such feminine meekness would be inconceivable in a woman of my own age. I've also noticed that it's more common in foreign women (the lady sounded German). I've never found any extroverted member of the opposite sex the least bit attractive, tbh, in a Platonic or any other way.

My biggest vices are pride and vanity, so meekness is a huge challenge for me.

What's your favourite cut of steak?

I have no preference.

If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, what advice do you have for those who struggle to stop eating meat?
