If the body and arms of humans were in the same proportion as the body and tentacles of the giant octopus, a six-foot man would have an arm-spread of 128 feet.

Driving licenses became compulsory in the US in 1916, two years before they became compulsory in Sweden.

Before the end of the 1960s, most countries in Europe didn't have speed limits outside the cities.

In Nazi Germany there was a road sign that said: "Dangerous bend! 30 kmph. Jews 125 kmph!"

The first dentist school was founded 1840 in Baltimore.

The first licensed dentist in Sweden was the Jew Samuel Nathan, that got his license 1799. Yes, there were dentist licenses before there were dentist schools.

Dolphins are turning up these days with up to 2000 parts per million of PCBs (a class of about 100 toxic chemicals formed by many industrial processes - they are very rare in nature), 40 times the amount needed to classify their flesh as toxic waste, and 400 times the level deemed "safe" in humans.

PCBs and other oil-soluble chemicals build up in the fat of living animals (including humans) over a lifetime of exposure, and cause health problems such as cancer and toxic effects to a variety of organs including the brain and liver. Inuit who live a "traditional" lifestyle, eating large quantities of fat from marine mammals, have PCB concentrations in their bodies of 10 to 15 parts per million, while most people in North America and Europe have levels of less than 2 parts per million. People living beside toxic waste dumps can have over 30 ppm of the stuff cruising around in their blood.

As I type this, it is 9:34 pm Saturday evening, Mountain Standard Time. In Rio De Janeiro it is 2:34 am Sunday morning. In Ulan Bataar, Mongolia, it is 12:34 pm Sunday afternoon... Now, here is the weird part:

In Honolulu, Hawaii, it is 6:34 pm Saturday evening. In Kiritimati, republic of Kiribati, it is 6:34 pm Sunday evening.

Highly nitrated cotton is one of the most powerful explosives that exists, but it's not in commersial use as a high explosives, due to the fact that it's very hard to press it into grenades and shells in a proper way.

* The Luna moth is born without a mouth.....it never eats or drinks.

* In colder climates some moths can have a two year life cycle.

* The Cecropia moth is North America's largest insect.

*Many females of the Tussock family of moths don't have wings.

* Moths navigate by two methods. They use the moon and stars when available and geomagnetic clues when light sources are obscured.

All the stress in the world won't give you an ulcer. Or spicy foods.

They are caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori.

Orange cats are always male and calico cats are always female because the gene that determines the color also determines the sex.

An 11-year old seen by specialists in 1937 could name the day of the week of any date between 1880 and 1950, add a dozen double numbers as fast as they were called out, spell forwards or backwards with equal ease, play Dvorak's Largo by ear, and sing all of the aria Credo and the duet Si Pel Ciel from Otello.

He was doing poorly at school, and IQ tests gave him a score of 50, putting him in the lowest one percent of the population.
