oh my god mardi gras! it was my first pride ever and i was so excited. the fun part of the day began when i went to do the SA stall in pitt street and after i went to have coffee(well i had hot chocolate) with 2 of my comrades and we talked a lot. then i went to meet comrades for mardi gras and i talked to them and got sprinkled with glitter and i wondered around the crowd leafletting for the next rally and taking it all in. mardi gras is... its like the queer community is so much at ease at this time of year and on the actual day especially. every one there was in a festive mood, dancing in the streets before the march began, music blaring even though it wasnt needed, laughing and confetti was thrown from somewhere and people were dressed in the most beautiful garb. my comrades were too. one of them looked snazzy in his and the other wore a lace skirt and another the fabulous outfit she wore at the last same sex marriage demo. one of the people who want a member and randomly came was in my terror and religion class last term. when we started marching i got to hold the mega phone and lead chants(i sucked but who cares) GAY STRAIGHT BLACK WHITE MARRIAGE IS A CIVIL RIGHT! my vocal chords are sore. as we marched the crowd watching us cheared us on and waved and high fived us and people brought their kids. i've never been to anything like it. and there were still political floats other than us. community floats were there too like twenty10, acon, gay and lesbian councelling service. there were also floats for groups usually invisible in the queer community like the polyamorous, asian and muslim groups. and then i rode home on the train with a comrade. i danced, skipped and sang on the streets of kogarah on the way to the car.
