Darts in the pub...

I throw darts with my left hand, even though I'm right-handed. I was so bad with my right hand I thought I might as well use my left and it felt more natural. I'm slightly less **** with my left hand, but I've been banned by Elf and Safety.

Haven't eaten steak and kidney pie (or pud) for a long time. I'm going to Whitby in July and there is a really good old-fashioned pie shop there... I don't think they serve you unless you have a ration book.

I went into a pie shop once in Liverpool----and bought a Kidney Pie! It was good!

Right near the art museum (and it's a great art museum, by the way!)

I'm from Merseyside originally... still got the funny accent (which I hate).

Kraftie... it's time you wrote a book and put all these experiences down. I'm sure you'd give Bill Bryson a run for his money.

Good idea.

There's a pie shop in Eltham (Greater London) which sold really decent, large (but cold) pies for 79p (at least back in the 2000s). They didn't have a microwave.

At Victoria Station, a Cornish Pie goes for about 3.50 Pounds or so.

You can get a really decent Thai meal at Camden Town for 5 Quid.

My next objective: learning how to drive manual transmission. That would enhance my possibility of adventure.

I can't hit a dart board either, not with a dart. All four of the pubs I worked in had dart boards, but only two had proper pub darts teams. I like steak and kidney pud, and pie, but if it's pie it's got to be flaky pastry.

It will have been a Cornish Pastie kraftie.

I really don't like "flaky" too much. It gets all over my clothes, and it make people think I have bad manners.

I do know there's a way to eat flaky pies, and to brush off the flakes in a mannerly way.

Eating mangoes is messy, too----but there is a polite way to do that, too. I just haven't found it yet.

I'm also curious about another thing: I've been seeing lots of palm trees in the UK lately. And they've survived, even amid the recent frost. What has led to the craze in palm trees?

There aren't many palm trees on the East Coast of the US until you get as far south as North Carolina.

When you look on a map the UK is about level with Labrador in Canada (if I remember correctly)... so the temperate climate is entirely down to the Gulf Stream and the Atlantic Conveyor. I've seen palm trees in the Torbay area... but there's a lot of difference between the climate there and where I live.

I know that Glasgow and Moscow are on the same latitude, and it's sea and air currents that keep the UK "warm", but I don't think I've ever seen a palm tree not on the south coast. It's one of the things I find interesting when I do the little travelling I do - seeing the change in flora north to south.

Some pies are allowed to be flaky, and there's nothing quite like the crunch of a good, crips lid. But I think generally shortcrust pastry makes the best pie. Odd bit of knowlege: a meat pudding is suet and steamed, a meat pie is pastry and baked. I think there's a Great Pie Line somewhere in the country that marks out the true North and true South. I mean, would anyone in Sussex order a Wigan Kebab? (that's safe to google, by the way)

Oooh I do like a steak and kidney pudding.

I also think that Kraftie should write a book.

The travelling aspie!

If I would howl, I’m sure the Tube clients would just ignore me.

I’ve seen many palm trees as decorative items in peoples’ gardens within Greater London.

Anybody ever been to the Churchill Theatre at the Bromley Library?

The Tube and railways are usually much more prompt than our subways and railroads.

I think you could write a pretty good travel guide for aspies or anyone.

I remember getting shocks from Churchill Theatre stair rails which were metal then.
I also used to skid down the hills behind the theatre on cardboard.

You were a true Bromley gal, Tem!

There’s a very good town green there, too. A big hill into Bromley Town Centre.

I was once stuck in a 2-hour traffic jam on the Bexleyheath Road into Blackheath. I was on a bus. I’ve never driven in the UK.

London buses enjoy kissing each other, it seems.

There’s a nice pub right across from the church near the entrance to the green. I’ll treat you to a roast and imbibeable drinks :)

A nice church it is, indeed!
