Right now I have an open space that includes the kitchen, dining room, living room and our over 2000 books. Between cooking and reading and with the little sleep I usually get, it's definitely my favourite place.

Do you find it patronising when people over-explain (fairly) obvious things to autistic people, even if they have the best intentions?

That's hard for me to say because very few people know I'm autistic. I hate patronising tones from anyone whether they know I'm autistic or not. In fact, I've had the word "patronising" in my head all weekend, because I've been reflecting on the way my mother treats me. She doesn't know that I'm autistic.

Most of the time autistic people understand topics in more detail than those who are NT.

Very few people know about me, but I see this a lot with my son. It's highly irritating for both of us and my wife has been known on occasions to tell people off.

Do you have an e-reader?

No. I think there might be an old one here somewhere, belong to my nephew, but I don't use it. I like paper books.

Do you have a TENS muscle thingy for sore muscles?

I'm using it right now for my migraine. They do feel great, but sometimes I put it on such a high pressure that I literally bruise my shoulders.

What are you wearing?

Jeans and a hoodie - both about 15 years old and feeling like a second skin

How's your friend's kitty, Isabella?

Thanks for asking! I keep forgetting to give an update. He's fine, and that thing he choked on didn't become a problem. My friend discovered that the kitty had a double fang on one side of his mouth, but the next day one was gone so it must have been a baby tooth. He spends his time pestering the older, female cat in typical adolescent un-neutered boy cat ways. Wink!

I haven't seen them for a month so I'm sure he's grown a lot. It's a pity they live so far away.

How's your cat, Bender?

That's really great news

Long story short, he's a riot

Do you enjoy travelling?

I used to travel a lot. Now, I just picture myself hiding in the hotel room all day to avoid sunlight and people.

I don't see the allure anymore.

I hate hotels with a passion. I prefer renting an apartment or house for the duration.

I have a love/hate relationship with travelling, despite (or because?) doing it a lot. I love seeing new things, discovering, exploring etc, but I hate the whole process, the packing/unpacking, airports, in particular, messing up my routines and sleep, having to interact with more people than usually...

Do you speak any foreign languages?

No despite speaking broken Spanish.

Same question.

I've done airbnb a few times and I do like it, but there's something more calming about hotels (more predictable and straightforward routines).

I agree that the packing and organising and worrying isn't always worth the effort.

I can read and write French quite well thanks to Charlotte Brontë, but I'm not verbally fluent. I could almost say I'm not verbally fluent in English either, because of mutism.

Do you or did you smoke?

I used to - quit when my wife got pregnant with our first.

What's your "vice" of choice or little indulgence?

When I was about 13 I smoked cigarettes very briefly to be cool. People said I didn't even inhale and they teased me about it, but I didn't know how to inhale any more than I was doing. It was disgusting. I get headaches just thinking about it.

My vice would be Whiskey Sour to drink, or Pad Thai (carbs) to eat.
