Dystopia: A state of society that is frightening and has a lot of injustice in it.

Portland is a dystopia because of:

-An ongoing homeless situation.

-Incompetent city leaders.

-Police not being held accountable for their actions in situations where brutality happens.

- nepotism
- way too many bureaucrats
- fiscal mismanagement
- wasted tax dollars
- Big Brother cops
- lack of tolerance for disabilities
- lack of services for disabled adults

You said it sister!! ! Mismanagement of staff and money by greedy (surplus of) managers is why the special needs adults in my town at the home for them all contracted Covid19 and are depending on a couple of nurses who also have it to stay n work inhumane shifts to try n compensate. Psws n others refusing to work till they get ppe.

They had money for all of this..
They dont even accept donation offer i made as i had extra ppe.

I dont know the extent.. All i know is spécial needs field has many corrupt people in it here and lawyers can do anything wrong and get away with it. Also i noticed people in this city lie a lot. Even for minor things . even a cop tried to encourage me to lie instead of paying my fine.
XH grew up here so that probably influenced him

Those are three things.
Same Q

Don’t think my city is dystopian really: it’s one of those little English places that’s really a market town, but has city status because it was an important place in the Middle Ages.

There is a significant heroin problem, but that’s pretty much contained to certain areas that are easily avoided.
The local regiment like to throw their weight around in the pubs and clubs on Saturday nights, but since I have no interest in attending such venues it’s an SEP.
The city centre is looking a bit rundown since the farmers market was moved out of town, and a rival shopping arcade built on its former site.

That’s about it really: completely humdrum and unexciting!

Do you find cctv worrying, or does it just register as part of normality?

I can get a bit paranoid next to them but I get exactly the same paranoia next to apartament buildings full of windows with potential bored grannies watching.
So, it's not about the technology, it's about being watched in general.

Same question.

Same for me. Last time I travelled to the UK I was surprised by their prevalence (we don't have many here) and they did make me feel uncomfortable.

How common is in your local culture to equate a need for privacy with "must have something to hide"?

In big cities it's uncommon. This is why I choose to live in a big city.

Same question.

Another vote for big-city dwellers minding their own business

If you could pick any place in the world to live in, which would that be?

Seattle, Montreal, or Boston within North America, but outside of North America, my mom's native land, Sydney Australia, or Madrid, Spain.

Same question.

A certain parsonage, closed to the public.

If you could be in charge of Earth, what's the first rule you'd make?

People wouldn’t be forced to do what they don’t want to do—provides they hurt no one else in the process.
