Kraken, In Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby Dick (chapter 59) the crew of the Pequod encounter a "vast pulpy mass, furlongs in length". Starbuck calls it 'The great live squid, which, they say, few whale-ships ever beheld, and returned to their ports to tell of it.' Narrator Ishmael attributes this to Bishop Pontopiddan's "the great Kraken," and concludes: "By some naturalists who have vaguely heard rumors of the mysterious creature, here spoken of, it is included among the class of cuttle-fish, to which, indeed, in certain external respects it would seem to belong, but only as the Anak of the tribe.

Bumping this thread back up!

How intense will your sense of fear become once you are told to get the coronavirus vaccine?

Not very great, because I probably won't bother to get it. Don't think that we can be 'told to get it' here in the UK yet, but - who knows? - maybe that could happen.... 8O

Do you celebrate Christmas, and if so, in what way?

Get through the next 24 hours....

Do you have a 'career', or have you ever had one?

I had what could or (for some people) might have been a 'career' from 1980-2000, in the world of education. I never really progressed, as you're supposed to do, as I never had any real focus or ability to make contacts. Got out before I had a complete mental implosion, and lived on savings and part-time jobs for another 17 years, before qualifying for a small pension from my former 'career', which enables me to live reasonably comfortably now.

Do you know anyone who's had the Covid 19 virus?

Yes! Windows 8.1 has been my main operating system for nearly seven years, and it's awesome - far more straightforward and reliable than Win 10. I'll be very sorry when Microsoft stop supporting it in a couple of years time.

Do you subscribe to Netflix or any other streaming service?

This house does have a Netflix subscription.
And yet this house isn't the payer of said subscription.

So.. Yes, there's a subscription.
And no, we didn't really subscribed to it (we're not the account owner -- but the owner gave/share it to us)

Do you own a landline and regularly use it?

Hmmmm.....interesting remarks about your Netflix 'subscription' there!

I do have a landline, which is required for the functioning of my broadband internet service, but I only use it for telephone calls about twice a month.

What sort of television set do you have, if any?
