I meant that as a sincere question. I couldn't think of any crimes which don't hurt people / animals, but since you work in courts I thought maybe you'd have some examples that I couldn't think of.

I guess speeding your car? But that still puts other people at risk.

I was just wondering if there were examples I couldn't think of.

Something like tax fraud indirectly hurts people----but it doesn't hurt people like assault with a knife does.

And possession of drugs. Yes, the possession of drugs keep the sleazy drug dealers in business. And being a drug addict can do an untold amount of harm to one's friends and family. But it's not the same thing as being shot.

I am certainly a "law and order" sort of guy. And I've been stabbed and mugged.

My mind drew a blank but I think the two of you might be looking for victimless crimes. I just can't recall good examples.

It's against the law for one to attempt suicide.

Usually, the only direct victim is the one attempting the suicide.

For example in my state there is still a 19th century law on the books that prohibits an unmarried man and a woman to share a dwelling (co-habit). That law exists but is not enforced. Breaking it would be a victimless crime I think. That sort of thing.

Yep.....the laws against miscegenation.

A white person could not marry a black person in certain parts of the South until the 1960s. There were no "victims" solely through violating this law. The "victimization" was in the minds of those who wanted to keep segregation alive.

Thank you both for clarifying. I couldn't think of any examples. I'd argue that tax fraud does hurt people, but the other examples are sound.

I said that it did hurt people-----but not like being stabbed with a knife.

A lot of laws stemming from religious fundamentalism would result in victimless crimes I think. In a secular society we would have few examples, but elsewhere you could probably find a lot.

I Google "absurd laws" and found some examples... "It's illegal to wear a suit of armor in the British Parliament."

Guess I walked in on a tangent... feel free to continue, but here's a question.
Are you tactile-defensive (defensive when touched)?

Yes, but hard to say if I still am because no one dares to touch me anymore.

Have you ever eaten green tomatoes, and are they good?

I've never heard of them I'm afraid. I have eaten green peppers, but they taste horrible.
What's the weirdest food you've ever eaten?

Luckily I haven't eaten anything too revolting. I had a sushi accident once where I thought I was getting smoked salmon but it turned out to be perfectly raw. That was a mouth surprise... I still chewed and swallowed, but can't say I enjoy it raw. Then there's the herring spread, chopped salted herring with chopped onions, shopped apples, chopped boiled egg. It's weird at first but it's not bad at all.

What's the longest book you've ever read whole?

The Old Testament, though I read all three Lord of the Rings books that were bound in one volume, and that may have been longer. I never finished the New Testament, so I can't say I've read The Bible, whole.

Are there any songs you know all the lyrics to, and if so, which is your favorite?

I know all the lyrics to almost every song I like. Lately I've been adoring QUEEN, but I don't really have a favourite song.

Longest book so far? I'm not sure. Maybe Les Misérables, which was around 1400.

same question

Strange World, one of my early Iron Maiden favorites.

Lyrics:
The only place where you can dream
Living here is not what it seems
Ship of white light in the sky
Nobody there to reason why
Here I am, I'm not really there
Smiling faces ever so rare
Let's walk in deepest space
Living here just isn't the place

Oh-oh, oh-oh

Stalks of light come from the ground
When I cry there isn't a sound
All my feelings cannot be held
I'm happy in my new strange world
Shades of green grasses twine
Girls drinking plasma wine
A look at love, a dream unfolds
Living here, you'll never grow old

Oh baby

Don't you hear me call?
Ooh-ooh, ooh

In your opinion, should shoes have shoelaces?
