it is very wrong for the dialogue box for my print specifications to include an option for "black and white" printing.

printers do not print "white". if you choose "black and white" printing and you use a yellow page, then you will get a black and yellow printout!! !! where the hell did the white go?!?

the "white" aspect of that printing option relies on the major possibility that the paper used for printing will be white, and so i consider that their insinuation that they can print "white" to be a deceptive claim that is subsidized by their parasitic reliance on the fact that most printing paper is white to begin with.
it is not necessary to print white things on white paper since the paper is already white, and it relinquishes the obligation to print white things on white paper.

but can any currently available printer (no matter how expensive) print a pristine arctic picture of a sunlit day on a black piece of paper?

no.

what a rip off!
