This happened several weeks ago, but it continues to amuse me a bit.

So it was raining, and my WHAP teacher was late to class like always. The thing is that my school is mainly made up of outdoor hallways, so the class had to wait outside of the rain.

Two girls: It's raining so hard! *sobs and huddles under an umbrella*
Several other people: *all tries to fit under the umbrella and hugs each other*
Transfer student from England: Oh c'mon, it's not raining that hard. This is just a drizzle!
Everyone else: It's raining so hardddd!! I'm so cold!
Transfer student: Californians.

Cool! A pair of horn-rimmed glasses! I think I'll hide my unworldliness with them. Do I look intelligent to you, or do you still see me as I really am?

And after eleven comes twelve. I just had a stray thought 87 will be the charm. My stray thoughts are usually B.S. though.

It strikes me how we at WP are probably (quite often) the people whom others refer to as.....

"What a nutjob...."
"Weirdo....."
"Did you hear what s/he did????! !! !!....OMG"
"That person's not quite right in the head...."

There's the 'normal', 'virtuous', mainstream person that the population at large thinks of as 'WE'.

Then there's a feared 'OTHER'.

The Non-person without a voice.

When I hear of people referred to that way, I have an initial reaction similar to the people backstabbing that person. I assume the person being discussed is someTHING to be feared, impossible to understand.

But then that reaction quickly shakes off to a sudden realization WHOA! That person may just be another misunderstood Aspie. Who makes very comprehensible, reasoned posts on WP!

We post the strangest things we have done. We admit them openly here. We admit to doing strange things out of fear...........panic...........sensory overload.

Which, I'm sure, triggers some 'FEARED OTHER' derogatory remark by someone who may have witnessed our behavior at one time, uncomprehendingly.

Yet, it is striking how it all makes sense here. So I view in a different light anyone who is dismissed in such a way.

They are not necessarily a "feared other" but may be someone like us.

Not another nap........ *sigh*
