Nine (English, Māori, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian).
Or ten if you count Australian sign language.
Don't ask me to speak in all of them, though.

French has some extra complications with verbs, with extra tenses reserved specifically for use in literature.

I really liked "Bleak House" by Charles Dickens. Very good literature-----yet very funny at times.
