I'm the same way regarding movies (and music, my first love and form of therapy). And it appears we have the same tastes, at least when it comes to Burton and Depp. I've been smitten with Johnny Depp since Edward Scissorhands came out. And not in a sexual way like people assume...although I have to admit when he has long hair...just...gahhhh  . But I would rather have him for an older brother, which he could be. The one I have is defective.

A kindred spirit! :D I feel kind of embarrassed to admit that the first time I watched Edward Scissorhands was January of this year, but it turned me into a Johnny Depp fan and rekindled my love for Tim Burton films, which up until that point had taken a backseat to anime. I totally understand how you feel about Johnny. People probably assume my Depp obsession is sexual too, but like yours, it really isn't and I would rather have him as a friend/relative than a lover. I agree about the long hair though. He's just one of those people who looks better with long hair instead of short hair. In fact, when I first started watching his films, I was reluctant to see anything where his hair wasn't at least chin-length.

No need to feel embarrassed about that at all. I can be way behind everyone else in the arts. I just take my time because I obsess on one thing for so long and then move on to the next. Some things, like Johnny Depp, I never stop loving, it's just the intensity that wanes a bit.

Have you seen the Libertine? Or Dead Man? Those lesser known Depp films that are quite good (and he's got the long hair ;) )

Also, here's an article about Edward Scissorhands that was written some years ago now, where Edward is suggested as having AS:

I'm glad you like it, of course.

I own Dead Man and a rental of the Libertine has been sitting in my Itunes library for about two weeks, though now that you brought it up I'm probably going to watch them tomorrow. His appearance in The Libertine reminds me of the way Tom Cruise looked in Interview with the Vampire. Speaking of which, did you know that Johnny and Tim are making a vampire movie called Dark Shadows? Too bad they can't start working on it till Johnny finishes PotC 4. :( It's slated to be released sometime next year. I'd much rather see Johnny as a vampire for the first time than see him as a pirate for the 4th time...

I've always thought that the story of Edward Scissorhands was actually a metaphor for mental conditions (especially autism). That article will be an interesting read, thank you for posting the link. :)

^ Idaho Rose:

Ah...I seem to recall hearing about Dark Shadows awhile ago, but I completely forgot about it, thanks for reminding me. And I concur, I've become a little sick of the pirate gig. I never thought I'd see Johnny as a vampire, but I look forward to it.

About Dead Man...it's starts off a little slow (artsy, b/w), but it's worth it, at least I think so. For me, it contains some of the best young Johnny Depp moments on film. The Libertine...yes, I can see a little bit of Tom Cruise as the Vampire Lestat. And the Libertine has a dark, almost vampiric feel to it. Speaking of IWTV, I remember when it came out I was a big Anne Rice fan and was horrified at the thought of Tom Cruise playing Lestat. But it was a pleasant surprise to find that he actually did a good job. I don't usually like movies he stars in, but I think IWTV is one of his best performances, same with Brad Pitt as Louie and Kirsten Dunst as Claudia.

You're very welcome for the link, I hope you enjoy it. :)

I think PotC should have been a single movie. It would have left more to the imagination that way. Now it feels like they're just milking the franchise for all it's worth, and I don't like it. I guess I'm just really angry that Disney had to time it so that the filming of their latest pirate movie interfered with the production of Dark Shadows. If Dark Shadows gets delayed any further, I'm going to cry.

Anyway, I've only heard good things about Dead Man from the people who have seen it. I have a feeling that it'll be one of those films where it'll be so good that I'll mentally kick myself for not watching it sooner. Ditto for The Libertine.

I read the article and it was really well-researched. They came up with a lot better argument of the "Edward Scissorhands = autism" story than I ever could have. :)

I change my post sig quite a lot but few people seemed to understand it unless they wer fallowing my post. I decided to go with a funny disclaimer instead of changing my sig every few days. I think I'm funny & I don't want people to take some of my comments the wrong way

Spoilers for the book and video game Metro 2033:

In the post-apocalyptic book and game Metro 2033, there is a race of telekinetic mutant beasts called the Dark Ones that are originally thought of as malevolent. But towards the end, they begin talking to the main character Artyom, telling him via telepathy that they are the descendednts of heavily radiated Humans from the surface(the people in Metro live underground in the Moscow subway system) that were only trying to contact Humans. They are mute, but can speak through telepathy. The problem was that their pschic powers were to strong, so whenever they tried contacting a Human, the Humans brain would explode. They also cause people to go mad just by being near them, again the product of their uncontrollable pschic abilities. The Humans thought they did this because they were savage or evil.

Khan, a friend of Artyom's who lives as a hermit deep in the subway tunnels, sends a message to Artyom saying "He who is brave and patient enough to peer into the darkness his whole life will be first to see a flicker of light in it.". Artyom had been having lucid dreams before that point, and it turns out that the dreams were actually instances in which the dark ones had tried to communicate with him. He doesn't realize they are peaceful until the end.

No real story behind my signature.

Murder and mayhem aside, I find it quite easy to relate to Lecter on an intellectual level.

I happen to really like caviar and figs too
