Nasty creatures ... they infest a person's brain and take over their bodies. The host is still aware, and is forced to witness all of the atrocities that the symbiote does while in control of the host body.

^Not all are evil, the Tok'ra are the same species, but they only take willing hosts, and then live as true symbiotes.

The distinction between the two "races" is not just their philosophies, but their differing genetic code, thanks to Egeria, thus making them difference "breeds" of the same species.

Calling a Tok'ra a Gua'uld is the ultimate insult.
