Umm, yes.
But quips often aren't true; the point of the humour lies in the incongruity with truth.
If you
really wanted to pull the joke apart, you could have been even more accurate and pointed out that the light doesn't come on until the door-activated switch is moved past a certain point and so the light would never come on
unless the door was opened. Mechanical failures excluded, of course.
