My laptop has a game or two, but I seldomly play. I use it for art, powerpoints, essay writing and communication.

Its essential for any chance of happiness for me.

Okay. Warning: Big scary and possibly threatening announcement coming up. Are you sufficiently warned? No? Tough!

YOU WILL READ!! !! !

This public service announcement brought to you by Shinobi Books, an unofficial-official division of Ninja Burger. No other burger chain has the the Dim-Mak Death Touch, guaranteed.

Back in the land of seriousness, Unknown, seriously, why don't you take up reading? You know, with books?

You've got that backwards, my friend. Weirdness is tolerated in college but not in the workplace, and you're never going to meet as diverse a population anywhere as what you'll find in a university setting.

100% right. Its ok to be a non conformist at uni/college, but not at work.

What about a paper delivery round?

There's no easy way.

A friend's wife made money as a kid by raising chickens and selling them for meat. You could do that with squab (pigeons too), but you will need a good sized shed and nesting boxes etc. and it will take a while. Don't know if you could do anything like that in Toledo.

Sell fishing bait? Bardi grubs for freshwater cod bait sell here for $1 each. Its hard work but you can get $100/day. Anything like that where you are? Other kids in farming areas I know get money from collecting and selling dead wool.

Otherwise, I suggest you buy and sell, buy and sell - garage sale or ebay.

if what you want is a better computer, have you thought of writing to companies in your town saying how deprived you are because you are using a crap machine, and that in order to do better at school (lie) you need a better one.

Ask if they have a surplus/superceded computer they can give you so you can improve your grades at school (keep lying they are not likely going to give you one to play games on).

I don't think he can get any fresh fishing bait Bazza. It's not like here on the Gold Coast where you can pump for yabbies easily while out on the boat....

Do you have a PC already, if so what are the specs?

Celeron 2.4.
256 megs DDR.
GeForce 4 PCI (don't know which model)

I want this:

E4300 or E6400 Core 2 Duo.
2GB DDR2 800 Corsair RAM.
8800GTS or X2900XT.
A 650i or 965P mobo for ocing.

I paid $750 for a generic, white box computer that kicks ass.
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+
1.8 GHz, 512 MB of RAM
Instead of trying to get more money, maybe you should try making the money you have go farther. It seems like people always try to solve their money problems by earning more instead of spending less.

A business faces a $10,000 fine for hiring an undocumented workers yet my town in Texas has a high percent of likely undocumented workers from Mexico. So there is a 100% chance some business out there would hire you if you keep looking. Tell them you will work for cash (also say your atleast 16) Its usually cheaper to pay a worker cash as there are lots of matching taxes(SSI, Medicare, unemployment insurance, workmen comp insurance, etc) a business must pay for a worker working on the books.

What would you settle for?

I agree it would be a false economy to upgrade, but your specs are waaay above your means, and what is necessary for adequate gaming - future-proofing can equally be a false economy.

How many current games would actually benefit from 2GB @ 800Mhz? better to buy whats reasonably needed, and get more later.

Also im no expert, but i think those new-generation cards are overkill for most current games, by the time they become a gaming prerequisite they'll probably be at least half the price anyway. Consider getting a cheap secondhand one to tide you over - you'll still be able to play almost everything (if not on max details).

I dont actually buy second-hand, but ill always look for special offers where the box/cosmetic appearance was damaged or software/leads etc are missing.

1.Lots of games need 2 gigs of RAM to run well at amx settings.

2.I want to play future games like crysis on max settings,so i want a dx 10 card.

3.How can future-proofing be a bad idea???

Ok,go to newegg.com and configure me a rig with a Core 2 Duo,a decent OCing mobo and 2 gigs of RAM.

Make it as cheap as possible.

because

a) the formats keep changing - eg. buy an expensive mobo with PCI-E 16, hoping to last 3 years but find next year theyll introduce PCI-E 32 or something, making a bottleneck out of your pricey mobo.

b) the value of electronic components depreciate so quickly, that you have to pay a very large premium to be able to play at max settings - the more expensive a component is, the smaller the performance bonus you get making it relatively poor value (in linear terms).

The bandwidth of PCI-E 16 probably won't be filled up soon.

Actually, I find that if I buy a very good computer, it stays a very good computer, if I buy and el-cheapo, it's nice for a couple months then it sucks. Go for something good.
