Rules have to make sense and exist for a reason. Else they can be disregarded.

Do you have some Polish roots or something?

I wish. The Polish are cool. No, aside from Swedish (going back to at least Napoleonic times), the only identifiable ethnicity I have in me is Walloon. That said, I will take your comment as a compliment. :)

I learned it only when I met people from all around the world but that's generally true about cultures - you realize your culture only when confronted with a different one.
Poles see very obvious distinction between law and morality and being rebelious is socially acceptable even for adults.

Swedes are kind of the same, but are percieved as the opposite. There's a long history of military pragmatism on our culture at large, so the typical assumption is that there's a tangible reason behind most rules even if you don't know what that reason is. This is of course not always true, and typically no one cares when a non-reasonable rule is broken.

Are you interested in a postdoc? I can ask around...
But we don't have Aurorae Borealis here :(

^ I'd have a ways to go before I could get a postdoc position (never got to begin grad school due to my professor suddenly leaving the university over internal politics).
True, the lack of Aurorae Borealis would be a drawback
