People can't have it both ways. There's either equivalence here or there isn't. My opinion is that there isn't, and suggesting there is makes an improvement in the situation less likely.
Essentially i think it comes down to this. Do we want to have a serious conversation about a serious topic - the sort of conversation that might lead to change and an actual reduction in the thing we don't like?
Or do we want to point fingers, attribute blame and feel righteous?
If it's the former I'd suggest we reject debate by over simplified meme. In
all cases, even if we're broadly sympathetic.
If it's the latter, then we should meme on.
