I've carried my Ceska-Zbrojovka pistol on occasion, but not regularly. If I get a gun with a smaller frame that's easier to conceal I'd be more inclined to.

I like to carry a pocket knife, but it's not for self-defense. My dog protects me pretty well. He's a big pit bull/shepard mix so I guess he looks intimidating. He's really friendly, but he seems to have good intuition about who's trustworthy and who's not. If he sees someone he doesn't like, he'll bark at them.

I carry a pocket knife most everywhere.

When I'm in my car, I usually have at the least a wooden practice sword within easy reach, if not this:

The handle is a little different, but the blade is basically the same. I think I may have an older model or something.

I plan on getting a concealed carry permit once I can afford a handgun (meaning...once I've held a job for a couple months). Considering a revolver, haven't really given the type of gun all that much thought.

For anyone that is wondering why I would carry a gun, there are many simple reasons:
1. We don't have "good" gun control in this country. If someone wants a gun, they will get one. Legally or otherwise.
2. I live in Houston. We have a fantastic crime rate. By fantastic, I mean high. My parents live in a "good" neighborhood, and there have been at least two murders (with a firearm) near here within the last year or two. That I know of. By near, I mean within a mile. My car was broken in to at my parents house a couple of weeks ago. My parents' house has been broken into at least twice thus far. Did I mention we aren't in what is considered a bad neighborhood?
3. Though the campus has a no-gun policy, meaning that it wouldn't have mattered if I did have one, I graduated from Virginia Tech this last May. That was a big reminder to me that it could happen anywhere, at any time. Am I paranoid? You're damn right I am. I still find myself checking for easiest ways to barricade rooms or escape from rooms as I go about my day. I don't want any sympathy for any of it, I was lucky, I was off-campus at the time. This is merely a further bit of explanation.

Like has already been mentioned, I'd rather have a gun for years and never have to use it, than need it for a brief moment and not have it.

I bought a pocket knife on amazon because I wanted the tools in my room. I don't really think about self defense although I want to do Krav Maga after watching Red Eye because thinking about Israelis thinking about self defense excites my curiosity. I also am attracted to things that move sticks in pretty ways like some forms of Asian martial arts that I can't remember the names of but I like when something is pretty while still being effective and I LOVE LOVE LOVE looking at Shaolin monks demonstrate but the Chinese are mindless about the shiny floppy fabrics they bring out for special occasions that do not look dressed up at all and only the purity of the beauty of movement makes the ugly detracting costumes tolerable. I think I have an aesthetic side that some Asians can understand and not be offended by but I think the Chinese would just think I am getting in the way of their textile kickbacks when I try to warn them that they are sabotaging their image with shiny fabric.

I am really against weapon ownership, and I believe the best and preferable way to defend yourself is knowing Karate or something similar, learning technics in which you could defend yourself without resorting to letal weapons.

Same here, fire weapons repulse me as well, greatly, I wouldn't be able to handle one, not even touch one.

I do on occasion carry a small pocket knife with me if I go into the city, tho I dont do it as much, especally since I discovered WP prior to summer, I have spent much more time online and not watching TV or walking the streets or going to bars. I dont need a knife to chat on WP.

I carry a machetti that looks very similar to RichardBensons's and carry it only when im hiking in the woods, it can be a weapon, but I use it to clear obsticles in front of me. I also could use it as a deterant if I ever run into some crazy people in the woods again (long story).

I do plan on buying a rifle, tho only for target practice and to take with me in the woods, again as a deterant from crazy ppl and if an animal gets to close for comfort and is treatening.

no - but - I'm looking for a handy professional pocket knife - and am really up for learning martial arts - something like kung fu where I can master chi and deflect attackers with my mental powers.

I was carrying around a Swiss army knife for a while. That had to stop, after I've threatened a clubhouse bully, with it. A staff person walked into the room. Luckily he didn't see my knife.

Seen a bigger one.. its about a foot long from one end of the handle to the other, and half a foot wide (top to bottom of handle) carrying something like 800 blades. If memory serves its in a museum in Sheffield, as a testament to what happens when steel-workers get bored.

Makes you wonder though.. if the swiss army knife has that many bits abd bobs on it, what are their bayonets like? Do they have the "thing to clean a pipe with" (official name!) as well?
