No, I think I read somewhere that you can change it, but you need to wait 10 years.

I am going to change my real life name at some point, since I have hated it my entire life. I just need to find a name I like. Problem is, most of the names I like are boys names or fictional....

OP, I would never want kids, but theoretically my sons would be: Alexander, William, Nikolai, Daniel, Raphael and Nehemja. I have no idea what I would call my nonexistent daughter(s)! I wish it was easier to use "weird" names in Norway...

Yeah we're terrible I know  I haven't seen it though, that's not a kind of program that applies to me.

As for the Scandinavian "F word", the Danish version has a double S in the middle instead of a double T (enough said).

BTW I've discovered Fattern's songs on Youtube and think they are quite hilarious. I laughed a lot the first time I came across one, and also since. (Don't know how he gets those funny ideas?? Poteter på badet? Badekarret til Pelle? 8O ) Sometimes his humour is a bit childish I think, and sometimes the humour is so bad / actually not-funny that it gets funny. :D

dont get me wrong, more often than not i have to hurry up and change the channel :D i only watch it for my morbid fascination with embarassing scenarios :D but as i said, its often too painful!

who's fattern? i havent heard about him :O my fave humorous norwegian singers are good old knutsen & ludvigsen :]

if my friend could name himself ROBOT, you can surely name yourself whatever fictional name you want :D

OK then. I once watched Robinson Ekspeditionen, and sometimes it was funny, but I got tired of it.

I wasn't sure how well known Fattern was in Norway, so I thought you might know him... Anyway, here is a vid with a presentation of him:

And here are some of his songs (it's mostly others who make the vids to them).

(Yes that was a long row, but I couldn't decide which one was best). :D

BTW could you explain to me what "teit" means? I've met it a lot of times in Fattern's songs and it bugs me a bit everytime because I don't know exactly what it means (but it's definitely not a positive thing, that much I understand). Thanks in advance. :)

Don't know Knutsen & Ludvigsen though, but maybe should try to look for them. :)

I hope I have 2 sons, I'd call them Kain and Abel, I want to see what happens. If I have daughter along the way, I might call her Lilith.

For a boy, I would name him Barney or Malachi. For a girl, I would mane her Barbara or Nancy.

hahah,
teit means stupid ;]

i think it comes from "tett" as in "clogged" having a clogged head.

"tett i pappen" <---clogged in the cardboard = stupid ;]

and you should look up knutsen & ludvigsen, theyre 2 singers that most 70's and 80's kids here grew up with. whats cool about them is that they had a VERY good idea for childrens music: dont underestimate kids.
so their music was so well done, it became popular among all ages, and today they still got this "cult" status among all 70-80's kids + their parents generations.
VERY bizarre lyrics, excellent compositions music-wise, very very talented two guys, both from trondheim 8)

Well...I don't have kids and don't want them.

But, purely hypothetically, I like the name Molly for a girl. I also liked Emily at one time, but I acquired a relative named Emily by marriage and I think it's confusing having two of the same name in the family. Also, Sophie.

I like Julian for a boy, but some people I mentioned that to thought it was effeminate. Joshua is OK too.

Ana, Ana, oh, please....other 'virtue' names are fine (OK, Prudence sounds a little bit old-fashioned maybe, but it's also in the title of a cool Beatles song so that's forgivable)...but Chastity? By reverse psychology, this one absolutely guarantees that your daughter will be seen as of dubious virtue in later life, even if she doesn't turn out that way. And Goody (not really a virtue BTW but short for 'goodwife', i.e. 'Mrs.') sounds a bit twee to me. But that's just my tastes.

Ariel means 'lion of God' and is indeed an angel name. Angels are theoretically sexless, so you could probably get away with it for either gender.

Some funny taste in names here! I used to have a big interest in names so it's nice looking at this thread.

My friend and I have running joke about having an imaginary daughter named Turnip.

I doubt I would ever have kids, but I will pretend for the sake of naming them. I like the names Alexander and Callum for boys and Alexandra and Alice for girls. I also like Sasha for a boy, but because it's generally a girls name here, I think he would be bullied. I like the idea of giving my (imaginary) kids middle names from mythology. My parents gave me and my sister middle names from a myth and I've been thinking recently I'd like to get back my interest in mythology. I was thinking about Greek mythology but then Greek mythology is all fairly nasty and not something you'd like to be named after.
Someone mentioned Ariel, and I think that's nice, partially because I link it with the October Project song 'Ariel'. It would have to be pronounced Ah-ree-el, though, not Air-ee-el because that's what you use to get TV signal! I knew a guy called Gabriel. People laughed at his name though, and his friends all called him 'Gabs'.

It's odd thinking about genders of names and how they change with time and location, learning from this thread that Shirley was originally a male name! My friend is named Nikyta, and she often mentions that in Russia Nikyta is a man's name. There was a guy at my school called Nikola, because that was a male name where he came from (Bulgaria).

Ana54 - is your name Ana or do you just like the name Ana?

If it's a boy, 'Torgny' would be cool. It's a family name. ^^

Thanks for the explanation of teit. A mystery solved! :D And it does make good sense as "stupid", eg. when the water in Pelle's bathtub is "ganske teit" (because it's old milk, Cola Light, mustard, coffee, rotten eggs and a lot of other things.) 8O

that sounds like some pretty teit bathtub water allright :D

actually that bath sounds like something that could well have been successfully sold to gullible people

Ana, your name choices are a bit, err probably unfortunate for the kids. In one of Terry Pratchett's books somebody names his daughters Prudence (has 8 children), Charity (becomes a lawyer) and Chastity (becomes a prostitute). There's some film in which a guy says his wife named their daughters Faith, Grace, Charity and Hope in honour of the main virtues he lacks.

I don't think I'll ever have kids, but I like Pablo for a boy - simple, straightforward, with a nice ring to it without being girly. Esteban and Oscar are good too. For a girl, there are a couple of Arab names I like (Samira, Amel), but an Arab name is probably not a good idea unless the mother was Arab or something; there's also the Tarascan name Eréndira but many would be unable to pronounce it and people would call her Ere, which I don't particularly like. Carmen is OK but there's already one in the family. Emilia, Karen, Gina are OK.
I think usually it's best to choose a name that is already short, so there's no need to shorten it, like Emma or Ana. Also I think made-up names are just trying too hard.

There are so many names that come to mind but I guess I'll just keep this short for now...

Isabella or Fiona...if it's a girl.

Aiden or Connor...if it's a boy.

Fiona is a nice name, but it would be an unfortunate one for a girl to have in any Spanish-speaking country (there'd be no end of teasing her as 'Feona').

Boy: August Jasper

Girl: Sterling Ilona (which is a very pretty Hungarian name)

I'm a big fan of unusual names. Generic, boring names are one of my pet peeves.
