In other words, there is always energy that is "wasted" in the running of any process.

Yes, efficiency is never going to be 100% ever. But it isn't due to some magical disappearance or appearance of energy. Say, you lift a box. Does TE = mgh? Simplistically, yes. But reality is more complex. Aside from the efficiency of the chemical processes that enable your brain to function, neural network to transmit commands, and the muscles to function, you have the constant of kinetic friction of the cartilage in your joints and the drag of the air to account for. Energy is spread out into many venues, but it is accountable for. TE1 = TE2 Always.

Happy birthday then. I don't think there's much more to worry about than media spin.

Eh, it wouldn't be so bad if the world ended. After all, we wouldn't be around to suffer it. I think it would be kinda peaceful. :)

we wouldn't be around?
Well, yeah, after all of this, there would be only peace and silence.

Hmmm I've been thinking about this and I'm much more worried about string theory than black holes being created what if they discover the end of the string and pull on it? Surely the universe will unravel 8O

Seeing as one of the particles from the standard model was named gluon what do you think the chances are that if they don't see the Higgs Boson but yet another new particle they will be annoyed enough to name it the pissedoff? :D

I really like the idea of a pissedoff particle :P

that machine will not create armageddon

all it is is a particle accelerator which they are firing up in stages, and this, on the 10th is another stage in that

I still think it's mad, and evil, science **cues bolt of lightening**
