Ever notice that school shootings are never done by girls?

What about poisoning the food or the water?

I will admit, that is the preferred method of murder by women, but it usually is restricted to fewer than 5 people. School shootings can kill dozens, and are often less specific.

Look at all the school shootings. I challenge someone to find a school shooting done by a girl in the past two decades.

Oh yeah, I've noticed.

In my unpopular opinion it's pathetic to blame school shootings (or any other type of massacre) on anything but the perpetrator. Blaming bullying (or the situation of your people as some try to blame when 'understanding' islamic terrorists slaughtering heaps of civilians whether in the west or in their own countries) for your own actions of murder/mass murder/terrorism is nonsense.
No one can put anything into your mind that you weren't already capable of. You alone are responsible for your actions.

That's true. She was the first one I think.

She won a photo contest with a photo in which her image was repeated several times. She turned out to be schizophrenic.

Her name is Brenda Spencer.

She was 16, her father gave her a rifle for her 12th birthday.

She basically used the playground (of the elementary school across the street from her home) for target practice when everyone was out there for recess.

She got 'LWOP', or 'Life Without Parole', not the death penalty, though she had planned it.

She is still alive, and has said she is really, really sorry, and wants out, but 'LWOP' means what it means.

I never heard of that 'schizophrenia' diagnosis......gotta look that up.

Ever hear of Laurie Dann? SEVERELY disturbed, extremely dangerous, scary behavior for years, nothing was done, and, well, Google her....too extensive to cover here.

Have not heard of Laurie Dann.

Thanks for the info on Brenda Spencer.

I think I read about her in Rolling Stone back when it happened. I can't recall exactly when that was, but it must've been back in the 1980s because The Boomtown Rats wrote their song, I Don't Like Mondays, after that, and that was in the 1980s. That song was about her, in case anyone didn't know it.

Oh and in case people don't know that about her, "I don't like Mondays" was what she said when asked why she shot everyone. :(

I am not sure if what I read is online or not. That was way before the internet. I remember when her photo was printed too. (ETA: The photo that won the photo contest. Now I remember it was also her self portrait, since every image in it was her.) It was printed in Scholastic Magazine I think? I remember looking at it and thinking there was something spooky about it. When the story came out about the shooting I recognized her quickly. Kind of a sinking feeling. No one could have predicted that, though.

So, so sorry!

I Googled Brenda Spencer to verify my last post, should have done that BEFORE sending:

Her father gave her that rifle 6 months earlier, not when she was 12.

The shootings took place when the kids got off the school bus, coming to school, not at recess.

She did not get LWOP, her most recent parole hearing was in 2009, she was not released, her next hearing is in 2016.

I could not find a diagnosis of schizophrenia, she tried to blame drugs; however, blood and urine tests taken when she was arrested showed she was clean.

She tried to say that her father sexually abused her, but there has never been any verification of that (personally, I would have gone after HIM with that rifle, not a bunch of little kids)!

She said at the time it was like shooting ducks in a pond and that she had aimed at kids with red and white sweaters, and, of course, the infamous 'I don't like Mondays' comment.

When one little kid had to testify at her trial, he said the way she was looking at him scared him.

She held off the cops for 6 hours.

200 rounds were found in the home.

And she was not convicted of 'First Degree' and sentenced to the death penalty?

AND she wants them to let her out?

Sylkat

Sylkat: Thanks for the info. Could have sworn she shot up the playground? Maybe she did both?

My unpopular opinion is I wish all bad news would be banned from all media for a month. After that, I wish it would be optional to read it. I hate being faced with it on every main web page or turning the Tv channels. Let's have good news only on the main page of any big website instead.

Republicans, Democrats, two sides of the same coin. America is bipolar.

At the risk of causing offense, I think the number of international students attending my university from some specific asian countries probably should be cut, and undergo a course in household hygiene before being allowed to stay here.

In defence of my opinion, I've lost count at University of the number of times I have encountered urine puddles on the floor in front of toilets or urine splatter over the seat, show or boot prints on the seat / bowl rim where someone has climbed on and squatted, and hoick and phlegm from spitting in the sink and not washing it away. Talking to friends about it, some who have hosted these kind of students report they act very spoiled and self-absorbed, have no sense of self cleanliness, refuse to do chores and generally act like little ****s.

I also note that english language students seem to be the worse culprits, and that not all of these international students are like this. I want the good ones to still come here but to keep the bad ones away.

A lot of cultures use a hole in the floor for a 'toilet' and the person never learns to use the toilet while seated. So they just stand on top of the toilets when they find them - resulting in the mess you found. I wouldn't like sharing a bathroom with someone who did that either.

I've heard about people doing that in work places too. :(
