Depends... at the equator, in the summer, maybe three days to maybe a week, if seas were relatively calm (cloud cover would factor in). Nearer the poles, possibly minutes to hours in winter, depending on clothing.

What single computer based technology has changed the world to the greatest degree since the first digital computer was invented?

IMO, social media beginning with My Space back in the 2000s, if not You-Tube back in 2004.

When was the last time you got called for jury duty and what is your best description of your experience?

I've never been called to jury duty :/ I have no criminal convictions, so I am fully eligible.

What's the earliest memory you can recall?

I remember being in my deceased grandmothers house, around the age of 2 or 3.

Same question.

Possibly on the beach at Blackpool with my mother, maybe aged about 4. Certainly remember my first day at primary school, was very unhappy and tearful.

At what age did your schooldays end, and were you glad to be leaving?

Does college count as schooldays? I was very relieved to be done with high school at 18. Holy s**t, was it really that recently?? It feels like forever...

What has been the best period of your life so far?

Looking on happiness alone, I'd say primary school. Everything was easier then - far less anxiety, no OCD, 3-4 fairly good friends, good achievements in school boosting dopamine, playing Pharaoh and Gruntz on my parents' computer...

But I guess the best overall (despite some mental health issues) was the period when I was studying two majors. Being financially privileged, in a country with free higher education, I could postpone adulthood and learn something interesting by studying cognitive science in addition to computer science. I could choose very interesting subjects and "interesting" is one of the top values in my dictionary. It also quite literally changed the way I think about many things. I knew down there that I'll become this software-whatnot at some point, but it was good to have some vague dreams of a career as a scientist or philosopher for a moment. And I learned about analytic philosophy, and that we don't know s**t about mind and brain, and that there are more than 20 definitions of the word "innate", and that a system with two light bulbs is conscious according to some, so it was worth it.

Almost the same q., but slightly modified:
What has been the best or the most interesting period of your life so far?

Life hasn't really been interesting. The most memorable things that have happened to me were mostly frightening, like travelling alone in foreign countries without wi-fi or anyway to contact anybody in the event I took a wrong turn. But I also feel sort of proud looking back, knowing I managed it on my own.

If you were in a serious bind, had no money, and needed a place to stay, do you know someone outside of family that would take you in?

My boyfriend and my sister would take me in. With my boyfriend I think it would be a bigger imposition. I still have the illusion that my best friend of 40 years who has turned his back on me and been cruel to me over the last two and a half years would still take me in because he is and always has been the closest person in my life.

Same q.

No, outside of my family, I have no-one who would take me in if I were homeless, I don't think.

Same question.

I have one remaining friend from uni, who has the room and the money, who would put me up for a while. Maybe my cousin in law for a week. I wouldn't be able to afford a plane ticket to lob on my brothers.

That's a difficult question to answer.
My roommate? Yes, he would take me in ... because I already live where he lives.
My parents' neighbor is one of the nicest people ever and she would take me in. But at that point my parents are right there, so why would I ask her?
My answer would depend on the details of the hypothetical situation that weren't specified.

What do you think is the worst job in the world? Not necessarily one you've done, just how you imagine it.

Used car salesperson
I am an introvert and the social interaction would burn me out completely. I am also very straightforward and honest and trying rip people off to make a profit would make me very uncomfortable. also I just don’t like cars/driving.

A job with a high amount of responsibility, with low pay and minimal benefits.

That probably describes a lot of different jobs.

Are you any good at chess?

I asked the question because I'd been thinking about emergency vehicle drivers. Not only are other people's lives dependent on your ability to do your job, but your life is dependent on other drivers being considerate enough to get out of your way, and their lives are dependent on your ability to slow down (thereby further risking the lives of the people you're trying to get to) if they don't. And most people are terrible drivers.

I cannot imagine why anyone chooses to do that job.

As for chess, I tried to become good at it but never really caught on. All the different moving parts overwhelm me. Go is much better.

Same chess q
