^ wow, you remember the name of the collie we had!
Unfortunately you remember correctly, Murihiku, they are. They keep looking into softening up the laws but it's never done. We've had 16 pets in my family throughout my life, the last one passed away almost 7 years ago and is dearly missed.

Sixteen? Wow, that's a lot. I was only allowed goldfish as a kid, because my mother didn't like larger animals in the house. It's kinda rubbed off on me as an adult, because now I wouldn't consider owning a pet myself. I don't mind playing with them in other people's homes, though.

Well, we didn't have 16 at the same time. At the most we've had 7 I think, and most of them were rodents in cages. The list includes two dogs, three hamsters, two turtles, three budgies, 2 gerbils, 2 guinea pigs, 1 rabbit, and a Japanese dancing mouse.
Both my parents and I love animals very much, as did my maternal grandparents, especially my grandfather. I miss having pets but with my allergies I should avoid most of them, and I don't want to be dependent on a dog that needs to be walked several times a day. I love dogs very much, but I don't want a pet that needs so much of my time every day. If I could get my dog back from the other side, that would be a very different case, but not a new one. Fish can be beautiful but I want a pet I can cuddle, and cats don't appeal to me. I'd also love to work with animals, it's the only thing I can see myself doing without being miserable, unless I were to do something that is done very easily and takes very little of my time.

...japanese dancing mouse? can't say i've heard of those, are you sure you're not making this up.
i imagine some slovak families cuddle with their fish. the christmas carp they keep in their bathtubs, that is.
the most pets we have had at any point is: 2 hamsters, a dog, 17ish cockateils, and a cat that never came into the house. i don't think my sister counts as a pet.

Dang it, you're right, I made it all up. Sorry Tanzy, you never existed... Seriously though, they're called Japanese dancing mouse in Norwegian. They are called dancing mice because they whirl around or swing their head around. The reason is an inherited defect in the ear's organ for equilibrium. They are usually white with black spots, just like my Tanzy was.
Wow, you've had a lot of cockatiels!
What kind of dog did you have?

that sounded incredibly charming (even if I'm kinda glad my bathtub is fishless).
