Ear buds should be banned.

Why? If they're the types that direct sound into the ear, less should spill out to the people around them - right? Or is it because they're tuning everyone else out?

People who are PROVEN to have killed someone, except in self-defense, or to save someone else's life, especially pre-planned murder, should never be released.

'Parents' who deliberately abuse their children do not deserve their love or respect. Giving birth does not make someone a 'Mother'....loving and taking care of a child does.

Not only don't I believe in giving second chances, I don't believe in first chances. For someone to get a first chance with me, they must have made themselves worthy of it, and the vast majority ain't.

I don't believe in parole. Sentences are too light already. Most reoffend and parole officers can't keep track of the ones they have to look after.

I hate the word "woman" and find it totally unpleasant. It seems to have an underlying meaning beyond simply "human adult female", a meaning that conveys certain stereotypes. Not just social expectations like fashion, makeup, shopping, cooking, passiveness etc. but breasts and curves too. I know feminists use it, but it carries a whole other set of meanings then - pubic hair and dominatrixes. Gross. I prefer "girl" and, if I have to, "lady". I call myself a girl, or just a person, kid etc. Mostly I avoid gendered terms though and stick to "guys" when talking to more than one person, no matter the gender.

I have a similar kind of aversion. Whenever possible I want to use "person" to describe anyone regardless of gender. I still prefer using "man" and "woman" to using "gentleman" and "lady", because "gentleman" and "lady" seem to me to imply social gender roles. A "gentleman" should be like this, and a "lady" should behave like that.. That sounds like implicit sexism. So I avoid using them. I certainly refuse to be a "gentleman". I am simply a "man" (though I'd rather be referred to as a "person"). "Man" and "woman" don't seem to have that implication, but they seem to simply mean the biological fact. I still do prefer "person" to "man" and "woman" though.

On amateur writing:

1) Wanting attention for your work is understandable, but I think people are too review-driven in online communities. As a reader I view your writing because I want to be entertained, and if you entertain me I'll happily give you the attention of a fan. Some people do what's often requested in reviews for money; it's called being an editor and it's hard work.

It's true that it's hard to improve without feedback, but we the readers are not here to hold your hand throughout the writing process and neither are we your fellow writers. Develop an intuitive sense of and skill for detecting problems in your own writing based on what's pointed out to you in critique, and respect your own work enough to proofread it before sharing or don't bother. A beta reader is ideal.

Nobody loved Harry Potter because J.K. Rowling needed feedback from them after each chapter to decide what she should do next. People love those who open the gates to new and wonderful worlds for them, not the ones who ask them to come down to the basements of those worlds and give them a hand with the plumbing.

2) Show some courage. If you're writing for the Internet you may spend as little as a few weeks to a few months on a piece and have no money invested in it to lose. Take advantage of that and don't write the epic and needlessly complex fantasy novel about saving the world or give your fanfiction the exact same plot as what it's based on.

How many characters can you name that were beloved because they were inoffensive, safe, and exactly like a real person? I'm guessing somewhere between a few and none. Go big or go home.

The word "creepy" should be banned from the English language. It's overused.
