Rant on shopping for jeans in the US:

In the UK I am 12-14 (for my build I am only slightly over weight, still considered slim - certainly smaller than many American's I see so theoretically no problem), according to a conversion that's 10-12 US...seems right as a pair of denim shorts I bought here last trip were a size 10.

Store #1; size 11, didn't think there was a size 11 but okay...slightly too small so a size 13 has to fit, right? Wrong, all 3 size 13's actually smaller.

Store #2; no sizes just S, M, L in everything (useful, especially in pants - seriously, who's bright idea was it to make adult women's jeans and trousers come in S, M, and L?), I know from past experience that L is too small for me.

Store #3; despite a wall of jeans, and many clothes such as tops that would fit me, this store doesn't go past what seems to be a UK size 10 in jeans or trousers.

Store #4; has numbers in 20's-30's I figure this has to be waist size in inches - fine, better still I notice they list UK sizes!! ! WOOP!! ! Problem number one is that there is no way to tell if a 29" is referring to the wait length of the leg length...there are rows of dark blue jeans that could be any size, length, style or fit. I end up taking about 10 pairs in total into the fitting room with me over two trips...it turns out that UK size 16's are too small...so I'm a UK size 18? I think not.

So, I've ran round for over an hour trying on many pairs of jeans, non fit and I'm running out of time - jean shopping for women is always hell, but the idea that the US stores seem to think that I'm a UK size 18 or US XL size (I'm not - either would make me obese, which is laughable in a country known for it's obesity problem) is somewhat depressing....clothes shopping does that to women, especially to those of us who are sensitive about gaining a little extra weight...

Add to this; only half the changing-rooms have mirrors, none have anywhere to put your things, and all have staff who don't pay attention or take-back items that are no good.

Old Navy will be where I do all my clothes shopping now - the only store where a size 12 fit me, it was cheap, and the staff weren't totally ignrant.

parramatta city council did this!:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/nation ... 6558362133
how dare they! queer youth need this service, it's an important fixture in the community and has been for 30 years and for the workers, the organisation and the youth who go there to be treated in such a prejudiced way is disgusting! what message is this sending to the community?!
but i think the herald misreported a little- i don't know that 2010 does professional development for nsw police...
