Some modular origami that I made during the last few days... The 2nd picture is a close-up of the 2nd largest model.

Image

4 different types, 2 larger ones made with 30 units each and 2 smaller ones made with 12 units each...

In total, I used 84 individual pieces of paper.

The largest one (shown next to the 1.25 litre bottle of Coca-Cola for a size comparison) is really just a gimmick. The paper was so thick that it was difficult to fit the units together (as evident by the gaps in the completed model). It is also very impractical to move around, as it is the size of a basketball...

Just made this origami model .

Image

It is Skella Alpha Kusudama (taken from the book Zen Origami) made from 30 square pieces of paper. It is designed by Maria Sinayskaya, who has a lot of other cool origami designs on her website.

The paper I used isn't optimal, as it is rather coarse, but it is quite sturdy and thus supports the model rather well.

I made a similar model out of smaller, more delicate (=more expensive) paper earlier today, but I left it at the coffee shop as a gift...

Thanks.

Here is some more fun with paper I just made:

Image

It is a Hyperbolic Paraboloid (shown from both the front and back), and instructions for folding it can be found here.

It is surprisingly easy to fold given the apparent complexity of the finished model. And all with a single piece of paper...
