Next month, there is going to be the fourth anniversary of my starting to keep a diary :) The very first entry was about how I got a new TV set and about me visiting my aunt Ela who lives in a village not that far from my town, on that very day :) So far, I have kept it in two notebooks - there are only 6 pages left in the latter of them, so later I will start to write down my everyday experiences and thoughts in a diary with blank pages I once won in an online contest (I won actually three such diaries at one go back then but one of them is going to serve as my dreambook in the future and another one is going to be used by me as one, in which I could record my ideas for short stories - so far I write them down using loose sheets of paper).

It's not really a diary, it's more of a rant journal, except I don't write in it every day or keep track of the dates. All I really want is to purge myself of all my anger and frustration at the world and all the rant sites I've googled seem to have been taken down for pretty obvious reasons, so...

Day-to-day journal. Helps to plan out the days ahead, what needs to be done. Prefer pencil and paper than computer. Write random observations of note if I see any. Draw things for therapy now and again (something I picked up there).

I can't keep a diary as I can spend longer to write the events of the day down than actually doing them as I go into too much detail. I can't really keep things short without many re-wrights.

Congratulations on your upcoming fourth anniversary!

I kept a diary from 2019-21 but I stopped because it took too much time and tended to reinforce some negative thinking. The last page of the diary ends abruptly as I had to get my wife to the hospital, where she gave birth to our daughter one day later.

2017-19 I kept a weekly scrap book, and since 2016 my wife and I have been taking a daily photo of ourselves (self-timer on a digital camera). So that's over six years of one portrait a day.

Hope you keep going as far as you can.

I stopped being able to really journal because of an abusive ex that read all my diaries and online accounts and used against me what he found out. It's been 13 years since I left, and over 4 times as long as we were together, but it's still fresh.

Nope. For years I've thought I should keep a diary of personal events, so later on when an event crossed my mind I could look up when it happened and what if any details, but I never get around to it.

I plan to keep my diary until I die :D I am soooo glad that I managed to keep it for all those years because you see, when I tried to do it as a teenage girl, it was always like that after a couple of weeks, I got bored with writing and destroyed my diary :?

So, it's already the announced fourth anniversary that came today, like this proverbial thief in the night :D I didn't realize this for the whole day - until now. 8O And there is only this one thing that is worth mentioning in it besides, though - which I did - more precisely, it is the fact that I accidentally saw today on the Internet that some Polish guy - quite a famous satirist, currently deceased - managed once to publish a novel that has assumed the form of a tautogram - A-L-L the words of it, begin with this one single letter - the "p" one :D And I have written a similar series of the tautogram "p" stories some years ago, after all and the thought that I could ask the people from that publishing house if they wouldn't be interested in publishing another book of this kind crossed my mind instantly :D I would need only to write some chapters more - and who knows, maybe I would outrun that writer in the respect of having written the longest tautogram story in the Polish language :D It would be wonderful :D

Yes. Faithfully since 1973.

I've tried keeping a journal/diary, but never have success with them. They end up abandoned and then thrown out. Not to mention vague and I think I resent them or something. I dunno. I think it would be nice to be able to do so..keep a written record of life and thoughts. Then to be able to look back on things, take a stroll down memory lane or maybe watch my own progress and such. I say congrats to those of you who can do so. I imagine it to be satisfying and rewarding on multiple levels.

I have tried it before, but to no avail.

So no, not on a long term basis, no.

For those who keep a diary - how many volumes does your diary have? :) Mine consists of just three volumes, so far. Two of them got won by me in various contests.

Btw, I always wanted to record my dreams in a special dream diary as well but... recently I don't have any dreams that I could write down in it 8O :?

Diaries helped me survive my teenage years. I have like at least 10 of them. I used to punch holes in them and to locked them with tiny lockers so that nobody can read. Used to write in secret language, have invented symbol for each letter, memorized all of them and got so much used to it that I almost forgot regular alphabet..I'll try to find it :).

I vaguely remember I tried to do something like that too when I was like eleven - I invented a symbol for each letter and tried to memorize those to be able to write in a secret language as well but no, I got rid of that diary too, for I got bored with writing after a couple of entries - as always. I was afraid my mother was going to find that diary in that case too - she did find my first "diary" that consisted of just one unfinished entry - I tried to write it when I was 9-10 - and grabbed it in spite of my protests, reading everything :? It was a very unpleasant memory, my mom was always very nosey.
