A lot of these things make better sense in the time they were coined. People look in a horses mouth to determine it's age or something.

The history of phrases is kind of a mini special interest of mine. Here's my favorite-Have you heard the expression walking gingerly? Well, apparently for parades and such they would shove a piece of ginger root up a horses ass so it would make prancing steps with it's tail held high.

Thanks for explaining. :D Yes I have heard the expression walking gingerly. I had no idea it was derived that way. Pretty unusual.

Mine too.

My Facebook fish are not happy. I tried telling them that I am not responsible for their happiness, but they refused to listen.

Since we erected more barb wire around the perimeter of our house, I feel like I'm in Guantanamo Bay.

Glad that summer is winding down here. I'm really looking forward to autumn weather, the apex of my garden's productivity, and that certain feeling I get when the sun is a bit lower in the sky and there isn't quite so much sunlight. Nature's finest time.

I'm sure the Florida winter isn't that bad compared to some parts of the US. For me though I'm just glad the summer is coming. Winter is always a downer.
