I found an hilarious birthday card at the shops today! It read:

"Birthdays are like getting a body slam from Mother Nature..."
"...and she is one tough, well... mother!"

It made me laugh hearty for ages and I had a massive beam on in the moments that followed. I think that warmed my soul a bit.

i don't know if this made me happy and it was days ago but it didn't make me unhappy. i was in downtown beirut on new years eve. the place was packed out and noisy and there was no quiet place so that wasn't nice and it was crawling with police or the army(same uniform, both as loathsome as the other) and that wasn't good either. they're dangerous and they carry heavy weaponry. um but the mood of the people around me were excited. by 11:50 everybody was milling around the clock tower and screaming every time the minute hand inched towards the hour and when it finally got to 12 everybody screamed and started yelling yina'ad alek(happy new year), bon annee, happy new year and that and people randomly start doing the dabkeh(a dance where everybody holds hands and dances in a circle) in the square and fireworks went off in the alleys and guns let loose red strings of bullets into the air. sydney has fireworks, we have rifle fire. close enough. i was alone which made it better but it was still kind of stressful.
