watched this webseries for tomorrows meeting at HELEM which will be about the queer lebanese in the diaspora. the series is about a lebanese-australian lesbian (lesbanese hehehe.) and gay man who marry to please their parents/ throw them off the scent. at least 2 of us at HELEM now are diaspora queers- me and the lebanese-canadian kid.

the only part i didn't think was plausible was the part where the hetero friend was in club arak on oxford street and was shocked and horrified to find it was full of lesbians. who goes to oxford street not expecting lesbians? and arak is a queer arab club too...

I discovered most of my old music hidden in plain sight: it was all stored away on the Purchased section of iTunes. I don't know why I had never thought to look there before, but I did today and boy I'm so glad I did! I have spent hours listening to all my old dance/techno tracks and stimming to them. :bounce:

Finally!
I got a hard copy of the album "I Choose Noise" by Hybrid. Second hand, but it's basically like a new copy, I don't even see any scratches on the jewel case or the CD. The price was pretty cheap too, ca. 23€ (considering a new copy costs 60€, I'm not kidding right now, it's quite expensive). :D

last saturday i went with a guy from HELEM to see his parents and we had to come up with a story about how we know each other and when he realised my last name was "smith"(not really smith) and my village was btughrine he told me i was related to one of the women i know from HELEM. on wednesday me and this woman and her girlfriend were having the "what village do you come from, what's your last name" conversation because they were trying to add me on facebook and since i only know my dads village i said that and my relative starts having a (metaphorical) heart attack. she's all like "what!? what?!" then i told her my dads last name and she dies(also metaphorically). "btughrine?! and not just from any family from the smith family! smith! why?! smith! my name is carol and i am from shouf!" i get why she was freaking out. i mean i'm a random lebanese person from australia and out of all the places i could come from and all the families i could belong to i come from the smith family and btughrine and i show up at HELEM, a little queer rights group. i'm a security threat for her. then our friend who told me we were related comes and helps us figure out how we're related. i'm so happy i have a new cousin. she was too after getting over the shock. her mother is a total homophobe apparently. i know who the other queer in the family is. i'm literally not the only queer in the village! and she's not the only one- she said she has an ex there. she asked if i wanted contacts in the village! there are contacts to be had in my village! btughrine! hahahaha. her girlfriend asked if my family could never accept me or get used to the idea of me being queer if i told them and my cousin is just like "yes because the smith family is known for being accepting!(my family has a reputation of being conservative and entrenched in their ways) of course they're going to change their minds". she gets my family. hehehe. this is so cool.

Celebrated my Mother's birthday (family won't all be together on the day itself). Got her a tablet.
