Thurs I'm going down to the clubhouse to meet the HOA Board. I decided to try and fill a spot that just went vacant because one of the members decided he didn't like the Board sending letters to one of his "friends" for doing things against the Bylaws. I was on the Board 7 yrs ago and that was one of the reasons I left was because the Board members were favoring their neighbors and using the Board money to get things that they wanted. Now the place is needing some big major improvements that I would like to get done and it has been put off so long that an assessment is going to have to be done - won't be making any friends with that one, but I never got on the Board to make friends. I want the place back to the way it used to be. From talking to Mary (she's also on the Board), there is only one person that I will probably be having a problem with and that is because she is trying to run everything by her big mouth. We had a painting schedule so the buildings would be kept up, but she trashed that saying we can "patch" them when needed. Screw that. AND she wants to use the assessment money to redo the parking lot and sidewalks. I agree somewhat with the sidewalks, but when I was on the Board before we were able to do parts of the sidewalk that really needed it without needing an assessment. We are running on a tight budget and now is the time the condoplex is about 35-40 yrs old and needing big improvements that have been put off by past Boards. I think the decks need to be done first as some of them are unstable and people aren't even able to go out on them. My belief is take care of the buildings first and work your way out which would leave the parking lot for last and using patch jobs for the time being. She's going to be a problem. Since I'm coming onto the Board late, the other members have to OK me so I'm going to have to be somewhat "passive" until I'm accepted. There is one other member - a guy - that Mary says believes the same as me on the Board and me and Mary believe all the same things so I think we can get things passed and try to get this place back to the way it was. So that should be interesting.
