Something weird happened today. I woke up to a text from my boss mentioning a skills meeting we need to attend will be canceled. I just thought I would send a text of what day I was going and leave it at that since I had received the text 4 hrs earlier. I didn't think that she would answer back right then with some funny pictures. I'm a person who when I even see my bosses coming in my direction I find the nearest emergency exit. Now I'm swapping texts with my boss when I'm still in my jammies?! Wth? 8O

As Jon Postel stated in RFC 1122, "Be liberal in what you accept, and conservative in what you send"

Good advice

when i look at all of my big trees in my backyard (above), i delight in the fact that i own them, and then i get paranoid that someone will steal them, so i have decided to get a very long chain and chain them all together and affix the chain with a sturdy padlock to one of the stakes in the chicken wire fence in the foreground.
then i will have peace of mind and all life's worries will be solved. the date is wrong on the picture.

How can someone steal so big trees? Someone could however cut them down if they block the view for a neighbour for example

i was joking. the joke is on many levels.
the main part was that no matter how strong the chain and padlock, to then just secure it to a flimsy wooden stake in the ground (which can be pulled out by hand) is absurd. like chaining up a bike to a golf tee.

also,

1. no one would steal a tree that big from a private backyard even if they had the means to since there are millions of them in the bush.
2. the logistics of transporting a tree that big would mean that they would have to get a big front end loader down the side path to get to the back yard and then they would have to use a crane to winch it on to a semi trailer (tractor trailer) etc etc.
3. the chance that they could do that while i slept so that when i woke up in the morning they were all gone (without waking me) is non existent.

etc. sorry if you took it literally.

Well, thanks for making ME feel like an idiot :P

To my defence, there are THAT crazy people out there!

an interesting point i never thought of. i usually say things like i posted to people who can see me and hear how i say it and if one is on the other side of the world with no idea of the motivation behind my words, then it would be easy to just say "ahhh the guy's insane"

You're showing your naivety Froya. Big trees go missing all the time. It's just that no one expects it so they don't notice. They never stop to think, "Hey, there used to be a big tree there!"

Personally, I think the giants use them for toothpicks.

But I could be wrong. I often am.

Oh, ok, I've never heard of that you see...

Do you know if those giants can be found here in Norway too? 8O

Oh, definitely. You're just not likely to see them because they hide.
