I did not read the novel. I listened to the radio drama instead, but I plan on reading it. The "brave new world" is fascinating, sometimes very disturbing, but not horrifically graphic or violent. If you like high sci-fi or dystopian fiction, then you might like it. Also, "dystopia" is a bit of a misnomer, since the society is hedonistic in many ways. It's far, far from eutopia though, and despite all its pleasures, I would not want to live there.
I used to want to live there. I wanted to build the place in real life somewhere far away from people and start my own society.
The only way I could watch the video was to hire it at lunchtimes at Bankstown TAFE and watch it in the library.
And of course, the Aspie in me latched on to it and I was there every lunchtime hiring it for so many months, I ran out of excuses for why I had to re-borrow it.
In the end, they'd see me coming and already had it out on the counter. I would just give a little bit of an embarrassed smile and go off and watch it.
I must have seen the movie over 100 times, read the book about 3 times, drew countless pictures of how it looked and even looked into planning how I could go about actually building the place.
What a place. The order!
I was quite young back then, especially for my age
Perhaps I've said to much
