Let's work this out. We actually get to decide what we need and want. Examine how you assess the difference between the two in other people, and then compare that to how you assess yourself.

Other people get to decide that for themselves, as well, and they will also pick up on what we think we need, what we think we want, and they will form an opinion about that.

The issue with friendships, on some level, comes down to everyone doing what they need and accepting what other people need in order to satisfy everyone.

If anyone wants to argue that they can't change this or that, fine. It could be a deal-breaker in some cases. You get to decide what breaks the deal for you, too.

Then making friends with a person or group becomes solving an n-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. Fun, right? Figure out the shape of your piece, and which dimensions you are willing to adjust, and then look around for a place to fit in. You don't get to decide what the open spots look like. The puzzle changes over time, and you might not have an open spot when you start looking.

If you have enough flexibility, you can fit in anywhere, I guess. I have a lot of things I don't choose to change, though, so I don't find a lot of places to fit in. However, I have tried and I have changed lots of things as an experiment. It turns out that there are a lot of things that many people need which I am capable of giving. Things like shutting up if I start to bore them, or actually listening to them and actively looking for areas of common interest. Then, when they talk about something that interests us both, I let them be wrong.

Yeah, autistic people can learn to do those things and they make a huge difference. If this doesn't address anyone's problems, then you must be ahead of me in the social skills and need a more advanced class.

the glimmer of stupidity reflected in thine eye befits one well to the task of waddling aimlessly among the lily pads that floateth aponst thy swamp of consideration.

and thusly i accede to the chore of divesting the mantle that keepst the depths of slumber from consuming my soul.
to sleep
to sleep
temporarily i hope i go

Well, I'm sorry, ImAnAspie, that you feel that way. I have never been in a romantic relationship before and I am in no hurry.

I actually do have something random to say. In the right company, it would be hilarious and have just the right level of transgression of conventional conversational norms. If I said it in response to another thread, it would be helpful, awful, and hilarious. So I decline. I needed a minute for the funniness to wear off, so I posted this rambling thought. In a world of perfect rationality, the comment would only be helpful, but ain't nobody got time to hear me say the world is perfect.

I don't always say things that are obviously lies but express fundamental truths, when I do but I will admit it.

I don't know who that is, since I only know the Pokemon from the first series and PGo, but congratulations, that's almost certainly awesome!

I can't use the GTS or Battle Spot at all because the wifi part of my DS went out too! :x (the worst part is that Anna and everybody else will be mad at me when I get back to Amie...) But I'll get a new one for Christmas!

I did not read the novel. I listened to the radio drama instead, but I plan on reading it. The "brave new world" is fascinating, sometimes very disturbing, but not horrifically graphic or violent. If you like high sci-fi or dystopian fiction, then you might like it. Also, "dystopia" is a bit of a misnomer, since the society is hedonistic in many ways. It's far, far from eutopia though, and despite all its pleasures, I would not want to live there.

I used to want to live there. I wanted to build the place in real life somewhere far away from people and start my own society...

...I must have seen the movie over 100 times, read the book about 3 times, drew countless pictures of how it looked and even looked into planning how I could go about actually building the place.

What a place. The order!

I was quite young back then, especially for my age ...

Interesting. That's real dedication right there, going to the library over and over to watch the movie.

What did you like best about the place at the time? What led you to actually want to live there, aside from the order? Did you, like me, find some of the society disturbing, despite wanting to live there?

Heavy rain and flooding all through my area this evening. Cars stuck on lots of roads. Manhole covers floating off manholes and sliding down the streets. 8O
