He was born in 1917. So that would make him 97.

I first heard the story while riding in a car past the Bethesda Naval Hospital with a bunch of coworkers after an after work happy hour at a local Bethesda watering hole circa 1986. So- yes-even then he wouldve been pushing seventy.
