Model Railways and Railway Related Things.
You lot have got me searching for goats I can 3D print! I've printed sheep, cows, a unicorn and people so far, but no goats. There are a few fairly good ones here that should be OK in 7mm scale.

I wasn't happy with the quality of the prints from my filament printer. I bought it with the aim of printing hidden parts, but was amazed at the quality I could get printing visible parts of models, although it wasn't quite good enough. Then the price of resin printers started falling, so I bought one of those. The results can be amazing, but I haven't printed any figures yet. I'm still experimenting with getting the best quality, and learning 3D CAD. I've mainly used it for printing things like bases for point servos so far, and a few test prints of actual models. It's too cold to use it at the moment, until I can sort out a heated enclosure, or Spring arrives! If/when the enclosure happens depends on my problems with stress, anxiety, executive function etc., as I'm terrible at starting and finishing jobs. Being distracted by messing around with Arduinos and radio control doesn't help either!
I tried to add a couple of photos. One of them displayed when I first previewed it, but they won't show now, so I gave up!
Thanks, John. I've seen them on the Gadget Show, and watched with interest. I have many gadgets and though I'm not looking to buy one, was interested in seeing how they worked, how good the end result is. Fascinating to me. Anyhow, not to worry about the photos ... (took me a bit to get photos sorted too!), and not necessary. I love your part of the world, and hope Spring comes early for you so you can experiment some more.
^^^Thanks for that, MG!
I've been busy creating scenes, and managed to find this great vintage twin contoller(with a lifetime guarantee). It runs so smoothly! A dream! Chose this brand as recommended by MG, and it doesn't disappoint. That miniature goat I ordered from Ebay arrived in no time at all, and 'lil MG has settled in nicely. He's watching o'er the castle at the moment ...
I completed the reinforcements on the baseboard ...

I'm enjoying creating the RAF base on my layout and have been inspired by some of the following finds ...

My eldest son(AS) showed me parts of the following YouTube video when he popped over the other day. He's training to become an Airline pilot at Heathrow Airport at the moment. This video is pretty amazing, and does include a train system as well as the most amazing airport simulation that people come from all over the world to see(it includes dramatic day to evening lighting changes, a plane crash simulation, emergency vehicles, even shows a concorde model). I've still not seen the full video as yet, as it runs at around 2 hrs, but fast forwarding here and there for a look is definitely well worth it. The planes land and take off, flying through the air and through specially designed flaps in the World's Largest Model City with Working Airport in Hamburg(again, this does include trains)...

It's also been fun to have a look at some of the amazing Japanese Narrow Gauge layouts ...

... and lastly, a look at some amazing water/surf scenes created for mini scenes and/or layouts(there are some great products out there for creating life-like river/ocean water) ...

Next time, will post some video on creating scenic backdrops ...
The submarine sea scene and the surfboard scene are amazing!
Your scenes are good too...
From the age of 15 up until 21 years old I used to be into model trains. This phase only had went on for like 6 years.

You mentioned that you can take apart Lego and then build it back together etc. The type of trains I am involved with are either kitbuilt or scratch built. Both are very creative and fun. I can be looking round the house or various shops for something just the right size and shape to use for a specific task. For example, I make buffers which double up as couplings out of drawing pins (Thumb tacks) and paper clips. The design I use took me around 3 years in all before I was happy and is my Mk2 coupling design. Most of the designs I build are done in my head as I think very well in picture form. Everything is in pictures, so by the time I am ready to build something, Ipretty much have most of every detail already mapped out in my head. I tend to only use paper to record my design usually after I have made it so I can then move onto a new design.
When I build the designs, a testing period comes in as ones design may not always work. If it does not, then it is back to the mental drawing board and I will enjoy altering the design in picture form in my mind.
I hardly remember a time in my life when I was not into model railways apart from brief periods when cycling took over (My secondary special interest). Since I changed scales to 7mm narrow gauge (016.5/0e/0n30), as only Americal locos and stock are available in ready made forms which happen to be far to big for UK model prototypes so wouldlook a bit large... As there is nothing available in ready made form in 0-16.5, I have to make it. Smallbrook Studio do nice body kits (Listed as 0e which is the European version of 0-16.5) which fit on 00 or H0 gauge chassis... So it is a nice way to start.
I LOVE building my own models. Everything gets soo personal. It is lovely! See earlier in this thread for some pictures.
True.
I only got into model trains to distract myself from Lego and video games. It's like got back into Lego at the age of 14 to distract myself from having a gaming addiction, then when I was 15 years old I got into trains to distract myself from Lego.
The only thing can be dismantled and reassembled are train track layouts, I don't think I ever mentioned this in my YouTube documentary about "Model Trains". When I had them out for recording my 67th video upload end of July 2019, I felt like getting back into trains again. However when the model trains were put away, I in the end felt like moving on forward with Lego.
I did consider getting Lego trains, it appears that I don't have enough room in my apartment for it. If I did get back into HO scale model trains, I would need a minimum size train layout to be 1200mm x 2400mm (4x6 foot) and the room isn't there. What killed my interest in model trains was getting into Hip-Hop and wanting to become a rapper after what I kept on seeing on MTV. It was the Hip-Hop scene at the age of 21-22 years old that ended my interest in model trains as I did mention in my video.

The current layout I am making is made to be portable on two boards and is 7ftx2ft. It is also in a larger scale (The little men will be twice the size of H0) but it still uses H0 track. I am making this little portable layout so wherever I am (When we relocate) I can still have a layout as previous more permanent layouts I've had to take down when I have relocated which is a shame.
I have found the change of scale easier, and also cheaper for me, because I can make my own little waggons for about a third of the price as a ready made one.
Lego is very useful for making mock-up buildings, before building the real ones. I've also seen it used as a solid base for realistic model buildings. It can be used for making boxes for doing resin moulding, for supports when building models, and lots of other temporary uses. I got rid of my Lego decades ago, but bought some quite recently to do things like this with, and it's been very useful. Well not genuine Lego, as I'm too mean, but one of the fake versions! I'll have to try 3D printing some one day, to see if my resin printer can do it.
