New Yorkers (and many other urban East Coasters) call it "caw-fee."

No way. I'm starting a new religion. It will end in kool-aid of course. But in the meantime I plan to cash in big time. I'm taking applications for Grand Phartvon next week if anyone is interested. Past cult experience not necessary. But you must have watched Conan the Barbarian at least 13 times.

Whaaaaat? 8O So I've been pronouncing it wrong this whole time?

Just like "solder" and "indictment." The English language has some funky pronunciation. :|

I love the Boston Accent.

I've never seen Conan the Barbarian---so I'm out of luck!

Yep....English does have irregular pronunciations. But languages like Welsh and Gaelic REALLY have eccentric pronunciations which hardly correspond with how a word is spelled.

One Welsh town sets the record for the longest place name in history. It would take up an insane amount of space to write.

To be fair, English borrows a number of its words from other languages.
