You're welcome! [I recently made a new friend on another forum, and we've been chatting back and forth.]
Maybe something like 'Hi, nice to hear from you. Maybe we have some things in common. I like X, do you like Y?'

The thing is that I see the age gap between the both of us could be a barrier; I'm feeling very uncomfortable because I'd prefer to write openly with someone else through multiple threads before they send me a friend request - it makes it easier for me to analyze them and find out whether I think of them as sympathetic or not since people tend to behave differently when others are around.

It's just that in the past I used to simply ignore such messages, I ended up feeling remorseful and bad because I probably have come off as impolite. Now, I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings - that was never my intention and it never will be. Frankly, I do hope she does not take it as an insult when I decline; Is there a non-harmful way to tell someone you're noz ready/you do not want to accept this request without sounding weird? :?

(Oh, and I really wish you the best for you and your friend! :) )

If you try to please everyone, you'll end up pulled in multiple directions at once, all in knots, and denying your own feelings. I learned that the difficult way.
Hmm...politely declining...maybe something like 'Thank you for the friend request, though I honestly don't know what we could talk about. I have different ways of interacting with people before I let them in, after all.' Would that work?

So far so good. It reminds me of a Fruits Basket/Inuyasha hybrid.

Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five:
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.

Why is it that I most often like mysterious, magical, white-haired, bishonen beings?

I'M ROYALLY PISSED!

I just found out that our professor has been using an updated version of a book that we were not told to get (we were given the information to buy the 3rd edition and she is using the 4th edition) and taking the questions from that book and putting it on our OPEN BOOK TEST. It's no wonder I missed some questions! I just found this out because our reading sources are coming from two different books and so I questioned her about it and she said "Yes! Great question! There are two versions and the updated version has different information in it." Doesn't that mean that mine does not have the needed information in it then and that the test has questions on it that it shouldn't have since we were not told to get the updated version? WTF!
