You're welcome! [I recently made a new friend on another forum, and we've been chatting back and forth.]
Maybe something like 'Hi, nice to hear from you. Maybe we have some things in common. I like X, do you like Y?'
The thing is that I see the age gap between the both of us could be a barrier; I'm feeling very uncomfortable because I'd prefer to write openly with someone else through multiple threads before they send me a friend request - it makes it easier for me to analyze them and find out whether I think of them as sympathetic or not since people tend to behave differently when others are around.
It's just that in the past I used to simply ignore such messages, I ended up feeling remorseful and bad because I probably have come off as impolite. Now, I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings - that was never my intention and it never will be. Frankly, I do hope she does not take it as an insult when I decline; Is there a non-harmful way to tell someone you're noz ready/you do not want to accept this request without sounding weird?
(Oh, and I really wish you the best for you and your friend!
)
