I was just wondering why children develop games where you mustn't step on the cracks in the pavement. From what I've heard, lots of children do it. I did it when I was little, and I developed it independently. It wasn't something I heard from another child, I thought it up myself.

I'd say that kids play games where you can't step on cracks because of the phrase "Step on a crack, break your mother's back."

You`re all playing it wrong, guys!

I played it the correct way:

I had to step on all the cracks and I would take longer or shorter steps as needed to hit them.
Also it was important that my left and wright foot hit the same number of cracks. If my left foot hit a broad crack, then my right foot had to step on two narrow ones. But things weren't really evened out before I had done the opposite (a broad for right foot, two small for left foot). It was of great importance that there was balance. If for instance my left foot hit a broad one, then I imagined the left foot feeling heavier, dragging along after me and it wasn't truly even before I had done as described above.

Come on, I can't be the only one on the planet who played it this way? :pale:

I played that game of avoid-the-crack, also the game of step-on-all-the-cracks.
And the-floor-is-lava.
And step-on-the-(insert color)-tiles-but-not-the-others-at-the-store.

I used to do that, but mostly with zebra crossings etc.
Sometimes tiles. Mostly zebra crossings.

My dad told me about the game, as a kid I played it.

As an adult I have my own silly version of it. For each three times I put my foot on the floor two times must touch a crack which is at 90 degrees to the direction of travel. I am not OCD I can stop playing this silly game when I choose to.

Some different pavements make it more or less easy to play this game.

If you want hardcore you need drive the wheel chair along such that it only goes along the cracks. The problem is that you have two wheels and I am unsure if you can find a pavement where the cracks are in the right spot.

I still always feel like avoiding the cracks. It just seems like my paces should be based on the pattern of what I'm walking on.

I'm pretty sure most wheelchairs have four wheels, not two.
