Will they replace the traditional cigarettes, like DVD players have replaced VCRs? And are they really a safer alternative or is that just marketing? I'm not a smoker, by the way.

I tried one a friend of mine bought, they use a cartridge which contains concentrated nicotine by heating it like a herbal vaporizer. The cartridges come in two different varieties, ones that have the same nicotine as a regular cigarette, and ones that have less to help you quit. The one I tried has the regular nicotine, it tasted just like a regular cigarette, but it didn't smell like one, nor did it put out any visible smoke.

They're marketed as an alternative to a cigarette that can be smoked in places where cigarettes are not allowed. I seriously doubt they will catch on since if it's illegal to smoke on a train, I doubt the conductors will look the other way if they see you sucking on something that looks just like a regular cigarette. It's just another stupid idea that will never catch on.

If it doesn't give off second hand smoke and thus harms only the smoker, then it's not a stupid idea.

I don't really think it will catch on.. but not giving off smoke is great and I also like that there would be less fires started by careless smokers in the woods :P
