Does anyone else get really annoyed by those emails that tell you to send it to X amount of people?

YES. And the senders should realize that after a while, I just start deleting ALL their stuff, automatically thinking it's just going to be more SPAM. But that doesn't seem to bother the overly superstitious ("forward this to 100 people or you'll drop dead immediately"--exaggeration, but not by much).   They just keep sending, and sending............

My FIL is like this. I don't think he can go a day without forwarding something or other with a title like "This is Cute!" I don't think he even read it himself to know whether it was cute.

It also doesn't seem to phase him a bit (is that spelling right in this context? "Phase"? I am never sure of that one) that these can easily contain a virus or something else very unsavory and that there's a reason the original SPAMmer sent it out with that threat to continue sending it along. I mean...duh.

Hate 'em. I have broken every form of chain letter I've ever gotten going back to elementary school. I finally told a friend not to bother sending me any more email ones because Idon't deal with them and she said she didn't care, she figured if she had done her part she was safe. This is someone very bright but won't leave her home on Friday 13th.

I hate those as well, and I've deleted every e-mail from people who didn't stop sending those spam messages when I've told them to.

I hate them too and when someone sends me one I write them to please not send me any more. They get all pissy, but I could care less. It's very selfish to spam others' inboxes with that stuff.

No, because the Google spam filter catches every one.

I don't get them; I've so little contact with the outside world I don't receive any spam.

appalling idiotic things. I cannot believe people even bother sending them. I delete them.

I get very annoyed by them. It is illegal to send them in the regular mail, but I'm not sure about email. Anyway, if it's a good one, like really inspiring or something, I will sometimes delete the requirement to send it to x amount of people and forward it then. Not only have I gotten them in email, but on myspace bulletins, myspace messages, and text messages on my phone (and I pay per text because I can't stand texting either).

No. Deleting email is very easy.

For whatever reason, I feel strange just deleting them like I'm being rude. Some of them say things like, I love you and you are my best friend, now send this to 10 of your best friends including me, and if you don't send it back to me, I will know who my real friends are.

04 Jul 2009, 1:16 pm

I just delete them. I used to think I had to send them to my friends but then I learned they were chain emails and I didn't have to do it so perhaps my friends who send them to me were also victims of it too because they also thought they had to do it. I was always lazy to do it because it seemed too much and I thought I will do it when I feel like it. Now I just delete them. I don't get annoyed by them. I don't see the point in getting upset over something trivia when the solution is delete it and problem solved. I haven't gotten one is ages now it feels like.

I'm more annoyed by irrelevant forwards... uplifting stories, "send this to all the moms you know", jokes, whatever. if I actually ever forward something to someone, I delete all the extraneous junk and notes and write a forward explaining why I'm forwarding it.

even more annoying are chain TEXT MESSAGES ON MY PHONE. I have a friend who sends them and I want to kill her when she does it.

oh gawd, YES. i was gonna say this but you did for me. i call it "O-mail", because it always seems like the Oprah crowd that do this kind of crap; middle-aged female coworkers, etc. shaddap! i don't care about your effing "you know you're a mom when" list!
